Nick resides in Brainerd, Minn...Pitched in 2015 for the Frontier Greys in the Independent Frontier League before signing with Minnesota on Aug. 7…was assigned to Low-A Cedar Rapids and had 12 strikeouts with no walks in nine outings...In 2014, he played for the Tri-City (Minn.) Hawks, a men’s baseball league…also pitched in Independent Leagues from 2012-13 for the Rockford River Hawks and Rockford Aviators....While in independent ball, he helped a friend remodel homes full-time…his work included laying carpet, renovating bathrooms and installing roofing....Pitched for three seasons at St. Cloud State in Minnesota, before transferring to Mayville State University in North Dakota, where he recorded a 1.95 ERA (13 ER in 60.0 IP) in 2012, earning First Team All-Conference honors....As a senior in high school, he played linebacker and kicker, despite not playing organized football prior to that…his preferred kicking style was straight-toed and he wore square-toe cleats....As a kid, Anderson competed at BMX and keeps his trophies at his dad’s house…his love of extreme sports also includes snowmobiling....His mom, Barb, told USA Today, “At the age of 13, he was already throwing hard. I remember one of the umps for Nick’s game, Mike Brown, we went to church with. He told me one day, ‘You better pray for me, because if I get hit by one of Nick’s fastballs, I’m going to get hurt.’”

Made the 2023 Opening Day roster to begin his first season in Atlanta, but was placed on the 60-day Injured List on July 13 with a right shoulder strain... The Braves won 28 of the 35 games he appeared in... Held left-handed batters to a .140 average (8-for-57) with 17 strikeouts and one walk for a .366 OPS, which ranked third in the Majors (min. 50 lefty batters faced)...Through his final appearance of the season on July 7, he ranked second on the team with 35 appearances and ranked sixth in the National League with 15 holds...When he was placed on the 60-day IL on July 13, Anderson was one of four National League pitchers with at least four wins and no losses, and his 3.06 ERA (12 ER in 35.1 IP) ranked second among that group...Made three appearances during a Minor League rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett, but was returned from that assignment on Sept. 27 and did not pitch again in 2023.
2022
Spent the entire season on the injured list or in the Minor Leagues. Opened the season on thg.e 60-day injured list (recovery from right elbow surgery), and remained there until a rehab assignment with the rookie-level FCL Rays on July 22…He was reinstated from the injured list on Au 22 and optioned to Durham. Was again placed on Tampa Bay’s 60-day injured list, Sept. 21, with right foot planter fasciitis, and missed the remainder of the season. In 19 Minor League games on the season, he compiled a 1-0 record and a 5.19 ERA (10 ER/17.1 IP).
2021
Diagnosed with a partial UCL tear as well as flexor tendinitis at the end of Spring Training and was placed on the 60-day IL on March 26...Reinstated from the 60-day IL on Sept. 12 and made his season debut the next night…made six apps in September before going on the 10-day IL on Sept. 27 (low back tightness)...Combined for 13 rehab apps (1 start) between the Rookie-level FCL Rays and Triple-A Durham, going 0-0 with a 4.26 ERA (12.2-IP, 6-ER) and 16 SO…began rehabbing July 23 and made two apps before an interruption by a medical issue unrelated to his elbow…joined Durham on Aug. 12 and made 11 apps with them...Struck out one of 24 BF in his six apps spanning 6 IP, compared to 26 SO in 16.1 IP in 2020...Allowed a run in three straight apps to end the season after his first three apps were scoreless...Underwent right elbow surgery Oct. 27, performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas…during the surgery, Meister repaired the UCL with an internal brace procedure…his expected return to game action is after the 2022 All-Star break.

Made 19 apps in his first full season with the Rays…missed 13 games from Aug 20–Sep 3 while on the injured list (right forearm inflammation)...Finished with a 0.55 ERA (16.1-IP, 1-ER) and .091 opp avg. (5-for-55), including a .034 opp avg. (1-for-29) against right-handed batters…struck out 26 of his 58 BF (44.8 pct.)...Named first-team All-MLB, joining OAK Liam Hendriks as the two relievers selected…the teams were selected with voting split between fans and an MLB-appointed panel of experts, including media, former players and executives. (2-for-33) in save opportunities...Among pitchers with as many innings (16.1), his 0.55 ERA ranked 6th in the majors while his .091 opp avg. ranked 3rd behind KC Jesse Hahn (.071) and MIL Devin Williams (.090)...Eighteen of his 19 apps were scoreless, and he did not allow a hit in 14 of his 19 apps…entered with the Rays tied or ahead in all 19 apps...His first 14 apps were scoreless, tied with Scott Aldred in 1999 for the longest streak of scoreless apps to start a season in franchise history (excluding in-season acquisitions)...Made his second straight Opening Day roster...On Aug. 4 vs. BOS, recorded his first save since the trade to the Rays…inherited the bases loaded with 1 out and tying run at the plate in the 9th inning and struck out both batters faced...On Sept. 4 vs. MIA, was reinstated from the 10-day IL and recorded the save against his former team…went walk, E6 to start the 9th inning but got a fielder’s choice, pop out and strikeout...On Sept. 15 vs. WAS, inherited the bases loaded with 1 out in the 9th inning and the potential tying run on deck and struck out both batters faced for the save…extended his scoreless streak to 14 straight apps to start the season...On Sept. 16 vs. WAS, suffered his first loss since July 13, 2019 vs. NYM (with MIA), allowing a 2-run homer to Luis García on the first pitch of the 10th inning…was his first run allowed since Game 2 of the 2019 ALDS at HOU.
POSTSEASON: Went 1-2 with a 5.52 ERA (14.2- IP, 9-ER) in 10 apps…recorded 4 outs (or more) in seven of his 10 apps…faced 61 batters in the postseason, compared to 58 BF in the regular season...Yielded run(s) in seven consecutive apps, starting with Game 5 of the ALDS vs. NYY through the end of the postseason…marked the longest such streak for a reliever in postseason history...Pitched in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th innings…became the fifth pitcher to do that in a single postseason, joining HOU Brad Peacock in 2017, NYY Ken Clay in 1978, CIN Don Gullett in 1970 and NYM Nolan Ryan in 1969...In Game 5 at HOU, retired his first 4 BF before allowing a walk-off homer to Carlos Correa in the 9th inning…it was the third time the Rays lost a postseason game in walk-off fashion and first time on a walk-off homer.
