do so since Fernandez in 1996...however, received no decision
May 3 at Pittsburgh, in eventual 9-8 Giants loss...left with 7-4
advantage, but Pirates plated 4 runs in 9th off Robb Nen to
register victory...earned 1st ML save May 16 at Houston, working
scoreless 11th to preserve 5-4 victory...struck out Jeff Bagwell
with runner on 3rd base to close out contest...made triumphant
return to big leagues Aug. 16, defeating Montreal 7-4...after
yielding run in 1st, settled down to retire 13 of his next 14
batters faced and did not allow another run during 6.1 inning
stint...also registered his 1st 2 Major League hits, singles off
Tony Armas, Jr...hit .179 (5-for-28) with 1 run, 2B and RBI on big
league level...in 2 starts for Shreveport, went 0-1 with 3.12
ERA....was sent to Triple-A Fresno, where he logged 6-4 ledger
with 4.46 ERA in 13 starts from June 1-Aug. 16.
1998
Made great strides in 2nd season on mound, splitting
campaign between Single-A San Jose and Shreveport...finished
4th in California League with 3.32 ERA while with San Jose...his
128 combined strikeouts was 4th in organization...raced out of
gates with San Jose, winning 5 of his 1st 7 decisions and
logging 3.18 ERA (24er, 68.0ip) in 13 starts...shared Giants'
Player of Month honors for San Jose in June by going 3-1 with
1.14 mark (4er, 31.2ip) and 37 strikeouts...was also tabbed
Howe SportsData California League Pitcher of Week for June
8-14 when he allowed no earned runs in 3 consecutive starts
June 3-14 (19.0ip,9h,1r,0er,7bb,24so)...was promoted to
Shreveport in July, going 1-1 with 3.60 ERA (4er, 10.0ip) in 2
starts before returning to San Jose...after making 3 starts for
Giants, he returned to double-A and lost each of his 2 starts for
Captains (18.56 ERA).
1997
Made transition to pitcher and appeared in 18 games (5 starts)
for rookie-league Salem Keizer...ranked 2nd in Northwest
League with 2.47 ERA...was 3rd on Volcanoes in games (18)
and 4th in innings (62.0)...opened year as reliever, going 0-1
with 2 saves and 2.08 ERA (7er, 30.1ip) over 13
outings...started each of last 5 outings, posting 2-0 mark with
2.84 ERA (10er, 31.2ip).

Did not play, returning to finish his college degree at SUNY

1995
Opened his professional career at rookie-level Bellingham as
shortstop...was named Howe SportsData Player of Week for
Northwest League July 31-Aug.6 after going 7-for-17 with 2 HRs
and 5 RBI...finished season with 3 HRs and 20 RBI.
