He and his wife, Marcia, make their offseason home in San Diego, Calif...enjoys fishing, bike riding and surfing...a 1994 graduate of Grossmont High School (El Cajon, CA)...attended San Diego Mesa College and University of Oklahoma...went 4-3 with a 2.20 ERA at Oklahoma and led the Big 12 in ERA in 1997.
2009
Was a member of the Astros' Opening Day bullpen, but made just 16 relief appearances and made his last big league appearance on May 13 at Colorado...was 1-3 with a 8.10 ERA (18 ER/20.0 IP) for Houston...allowed runs in each of his last 4 outings (10 ER/5.1 IP), and in 9 of his final 10 appearances after opening the year with a 3.86 ERA (3 ER/7.0 IP) in first 6 games...big league opponents batted .357 (30-84)...all 3 losses came in a span of 7 team games from April 19-25...allowed 2 of 6 (33%) inherited runners to score...was 0-for-2 in save chances...first batters were 8-for-15 (.533) with one walk, one strikeout, and a home run...was on the Houston 15-day disabled list May 14-June 9 with right biceps tendinitis and was reinstated from the DL and outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock on June 10...spent rest of the season with the Express, going 1-3 with 2 saves and a 4.95 ERA (22 ER/40.0 IP)...allowed earned runs in only 7 of 26 relief appearances, but permitted multiple runs in each of those 7 games...posted 26 strikeouts against just 11 walks, but PCL opponents batted .323 (53-164)...was 2-for-4 in save chances with Round Rock.

Posted a 2-3 record and a career-best 2.53 ERA (18ER/64IP) in his first season with Houston...was dominant on the road, allowing just a 1.19 ERA (4ER/30.1IP) in 29 road outings...opponents hit .155 against him away from Minute Maid Park...limited right-handed hitters to a .182 average (25x137) and all hitters to a .197 average (45x228)...ranked 10th in the Majors and seventh in the league in opponent batting average against righties (min. 125 AB)...pitched more than 1.0 inning in relief in 17 appearances in 2008, posting a 1-1 record and a 1.97 ERA (7ER/32.0IP) in those outings...pitched in consecutive games seven times and did not allow a run in the second game of those appearances (7.2 IP)...allowed just three home runs in 64.0 innings pitched in 2008...stranded 17 of 20 inherited runners...finished the season by posting scoreless appearances in 15 of his last 18 outings since July 28 (1.96 ERA, 4ER/18.1IP)...lost backto- back decisions for only the second time in his six-year Major League career on July 23 vs. PIT and Aug. 26 vs. CIN...spent time on the Disabled List from May 16-June 3, while recovering from a strained right groin...missed 16 games while on the DL.

Pitched in 57 games for the Phillies and finished 3-2 with a 4.41 ERA (33ER/67.1IP)...began the season with the Phillies and had a 1.50 ERA (3ER/18IP) while holding opponents to a .197 avg (12x61) through his first 17 appearances...compiled an 8.57 ERA (20ER/21IP) in his next 20 appearances and was optioned to Triple A Ottawa on June 30...did not walk a batter in 17.2 IP with Ottawa...finished the season strong, posting a 2-0 record with a 3.18 ERA (10ER/28.1IP) in 20 games after the All-Star Break...recalled on July 30 and made three appearances (3ER/5.1IP) before being optioned back to Ottawa on Aug. 9...was recalled again on Aug. 23...went 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA (4ER/21.1IP) over a 15-game span from Aug. 23-Sept. 23...pitched 3.0 scoreless innings and earned the win on Sept. 13 vs COL.
