Speedy outfield prospect has been hampered by injuries throughout career, having played in more than 100 games just twice...has recorded impressive numbers when healthy, posting .292 average with 201 stolen bases in 256 career attempts...in fact, in his 3 fully healthy campaigns (2000, 2002 and 2003), has combined to hit .301 (394-for-1,311) with 63 2Bs, 15 3Bs, 36 HRs and 169 RBI in 351 games while swiping 92 bases in 133 tries...is just 26 years old despite having 10 years of professional experience... Graduated from Unidad Educativa Juan Vicente Gonzalez High School...attended Universidad del Zulia...daughter (Gabriela)...single.

Spent entire campaign at double-A Norwich, posting solid numbers despite logging more than month on Disabled List with left foot fracture...finished 4th on club with .289 batting avg. (110-for-389) and 2nd with 20 stolen bases (in 21 attempts)...batted leadoff in every game started while playing center field in 87 of 93 games...named Norwich's April Player of Month after posting .364 avg. (32-for-88) with 19 runs and 13 RBI in 21 games...

Rose to new levels in Giants organization, seeing 1st triple-A action and making ML debut in June...was recalled from triple-A Fresno June 21 and was SF's starting center fielder that night in Oakland...went 1-for-4, collecting infield single off Athletics' Tim Hudson for 1st big league hit...played in 7 games with Giants overall, going 1-for-7 with stolen base...combined to hit .294 (130-for-442) with 4 HRs, 28 RBI and 20 stolen bases (in 34 attempts) with double-A Norwich and Fresno...began year with Navigators, but after earning Player of Month accolades in May, was promoted to Grizzlies June 18...hit at .277 clip (56-for-202) while playing all 3 outfield positions at Fresno...batted .325 (41-for-126) with 5 HRs in 45 games with Occidente in Venezuela Winter League.

Again served notice of vast potential when healthy, batting .293 with organization-best 19 HRs and 60 RBI in 111 games with single-A San Jose and double-A Shreveport...finished 7th among all Giants farmhands in batting avg., while his 18 stolen bases (in 23 attempts) ranked 6th...was especially impressive over his 74-game stay in San Jose, hitting at .314 clip with 19 2Bs, 6 3Bs, 15 HRs, 45 RBI and 14 stolen bases...had start of season delayed while recovering from off-season surgery to repair torn rotator cuff...rode power surge to San Jose Player of Month honors for May, finishing with .277 avg. (33-for-119) with 5 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 9 HRs and 23 RBI in 28 games...after batting .297 in June, was promoted to double-A Shreveport July 1...was sent back to San Jose Aug. 11 after hitting .244 (33-for-135) with 3 2Bs, 4 HRs and 15 RBI in 37 games for Swamp Dragons...hit for cycle in Aug. 19 loss at Stockton, going 4-for-5 with 3 runs scored and solo HR.

Had promising double-A debut cut short due to injury...was limited to 41 games for Shreveport before suffering torn right rotator cuff May 19...hit .308 with 12 2Bs, 2 3Bs, HR, 8 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 1st action at double-A level...hit safely in 15 of his last 17 contests before injury occurred, hitting at .379 clip (25-for-66) with 9 2Bs, HR and 5 RBI...was limited to just 6 games for Grand Canyon in Arizona Fall League.

Had breakout season at single-A Bakersfield, hitting .315 with 13 HRs and 81 RBI in 121 games...entering 2000 campaign, had tallied just 5 HRs and 77 RBI total over 182 games in 5 previous professional seasons...set club record with organizational-best 54 stolen bases in 66 attempts, tying for 4th in California League...team-high .315 average ranked 4th in Giants system and 7th in Cal League...was named Blaze's Player of Month in both June and July...was named California League Player of Week by Howe Sportsdata Aug. 14-20...was Honorable Mention on Cal League's Post-Season All-Star squad...had never played more than 46 games in any previous professional season...teamed with Yorvit Torrealba on Occidente club in Venezuelan Winter League following campaign.
