Began the season on the injured list as he continued his recovery from July 9, 2021 “Tommy John” surgery…was reinstated on May 3 and assigned to High-A Lansing where he was 2-4 with a 2.64 ERA in 15 games, including 12 starts…was transferred to Double-A Midland Aug. 14 and went 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in five starts with the RockHounds...Combined to go 4-4 with a 2.42 ERA and .614 opponents OPS in 20 games, including 17 starts, overall...Struck out 64 batters in 63.1 innings (9.09 per nine innings) and walked just 15 (2.13 per nine innings)...Held the opposition to a .209 batting average, which broke down to .190 (27-for-142) with a .564 opponents OPS against right-handed hitters compared to .241 (20-for-83) with a .702 OPS against left-handers...Allowed five home runs, all solo shots...Combined for a 3-0 record and a 2.08 ERA in nine games at home compared to 1-4 with a 2.73 ERA in 11 outings on the road. ..Yielded a .099 batting average with two strikes...The opponents’ nine hitter in the order was 1-for-17 (.059) against him...Tossed five innings or fewer in all 20 of his appearances and averaged 47.1 pitches per game…allowed three hits or fewer 18 times and one run or fewer 17 times.

After missing the 2020 season due to the pandemic, he pitched in just seven games in 2021 before having “Tommy John” surgery on his left elbow…went 2-2 with a 4.71 ERA in seven games, including four starts, with High-A Lansing…struck out 26 in 21.0 innings (11.14 per nine innings) and walked seven…allowed a .247 opponents batting average, including .241 against right-handed hitters and .258 against left-handers…yielded both of his home runs to righties… opponents hit .192 with runners in scoring position…had a 1.86 ERA and .487 opponents OPS on the road, a 7.15 ERA and .842 OPS at home…stranded both of his inherited runners in his three relief appearances and first batters faced were 0-for-2 with a walk…made four starts in May and was 0-2 with a 4.61 ERA…then logged three relief appearances in June and was 2-0 with a 4.91 ERA…pitched a season-high 4.0 innings in his first start on May 5 against Lake County and tossed three or more innings in five of his seven appearances…recorded his first professional win with 2.2 innings of relief on June 1 against South Bend in a 3-2 victory (2 h, 1 r, 1 er, 2 bb, 5 so)…allowed three runs in 1.2 innings of relief on June 15 against Great Lakes…was placed on the injured list June 19 and underwent left elbow UCL reconstruction surgery on July 9.

Made his professional debut with the A’s Gold club in the Arizona Rookie League and had no decisions and a 1.75 ERA in 15 games, including one start…struck out 38 batters in 25.2 innings (13.32 per nine innings) and walked eight (2.81 per nine innings)…did not surrender a home run…allowed a .201 opponents batting average, which broke down to .194 against righthanded hitters compared to .250 against left-handers…made his debut on June 26 against the Dodgers-Mota club (2.0 ip, 4 h, 2 r, 2 er, 3 so)…tossed a season-high 3.0 innings in his only start in the second game of an Aug. 16 doubleheader against Giants-Black…did not allow a run in six of seven appearances in August for a 0.73 ERA…made one postseason relief appearance on Aug. 27 against Indians-Blue (1.0 ip, 1 bb, 1 so).
