Full name is Andrew Eugene Pettitte...he and his wife, Laura, have four children: sons Joshua Blake (15), Jared (11) and Luke Jackson (4), and daughter, Lexy Grace (9)... was selected by the Yankees in the 22nd round of the 1990 First-Year Player Draft, but chose to attend San Jacinto (Texas) Junior College... was eventually signed by Joe Robison on 5/25/91... graduated from Deer Park (Texas) High School... his father-in-law has been the pastor of the same Deer Park Baptist church for more than 40 years... Andy and Laura are members of the church, where they teach youth classes and sing in the choir...Participated in a game of Tee Ball on the White House South Lawn during the summer of 2005 while the Astros were in town playing the Washington Nationals... the game featured teams from Little League Baseball's Challenger Division for physically and mentally disabled children... President George W. Bush was in attendance...Was honored by the New York Sports Photographers with the "Good Guy" Award for 1996... also received a special recognition award for his work with the RBI program in 1996... received the 2003 Warren Spahn Award, given annually to the top left-handed pitcher in baseball, from the Oklahoma Sports Museum... tabbed by the Houston Chapter of the BBWAA as the "Greater Houston Major League Player of the Year" in 1996 and again in 2003... named the Astros' recipient of the 2005 Roberto Clemente Award and one of 30 nominees for the award... also in 2005, was Houston's nominee for the Marvin Miller "Man of the Year" Award... received the Thurman Munson Award in 2006, presented by the Association for the Help of Retarded Children...honored along with teammates Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada with the 2009 "Willie, Mickey and the Duke" Award from the New York Baseball Writer's Association of America...Is an active supporter of the San Jacinto College Foundation, a non-profit corporation that helps to enhance the level of achievement at the college he attended... as the official spokesman of the fund's annual gold tournament, the foundation has raised over $550,000 since 1996... visited the St. Cabrini Nursing Home in New York in April 2008... joined Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes and Brian Cashman at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in September 2009.
