Began season in Cubs bullpen...Had a 2.08 ERA through his first 6 games...After going 1-1, 3.90 ERA in 14 games, was waived by Cubs 5/15 and claimed by Arizona...Made 9 relief appearances before moving into the rotation...Made 1st start 6/20 at STL...Won 6-5 on 8/3 at CHI, first return to Wrigley...Also won 9/4 vs HOU, 3-1, season-high 7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 6 SO...Only D-Backs pitcher to hit a triple 8/24 at NYM (Masato Yoshii).

Began season at Iowa (AAA), but after going 3-1, 3.06 ERA in 8 starts was promoted to the Cubs...Made ML debut 5/16 vs HOU, a 13-1 win...He no-hit the Astros for 5.2 innings until Jeff Bagwell singled - the only hit he allowed in 7.0 innings...Won his next start 5/21 at ATL, 4-2 - a 2-run HR by Marquis Grissom broke 12.1 scoreless inning streak...Recorded first 2 hits of career 7/2 at PIT in 15-7 win - 1st hit was RBI single (Paul Wagner)...On DL 8/20-9/4 with strained right shoulder...Moved to bullpen upon return.

Spent a full season at Orlando...His 151 strikeouts led the Cubs organization and ranked 2nd in Southern League while his 3.29 ERA ranked 7th...Led SL in fewest base runners allowed per 9 IP (9.6) and was 2nd in opponents average (.211).
