Attended Perkin Community High School in Packwood, Iowa, where he was all-district in football, baseball and basketball. Was also a 4x200 track state champion..As a member of the Panthers basketball team, Winn logged a record-breaking 26 rebounds in one game...Returned to Perkin this past offseason to have his baseball jersey number (#23) retired. Winn still holds the school career record for ERA as well as the distinction of having the only perfect game in school history...Played for Iowa Western Community College and wrapped up his two seasons with a 7-1 record and a 2.37 ERA in 24 appearances (four starts). Was actually drafted twice by the Giants, being taken by SF in the 20th round of the 2017 draft (606th pick) but he opted to return to school. SF took him again in the fifth round in 2018 and he signed.

Started the year at Triple-A Sacramento and went 0-6 with a 4.81 ERA in 17 outings (14 starts) with the River Cats...Recalled on June 12 and made his Major League debut on June 13 at STL in relief, firing 4.0 innings and picking up the save...Became the third Major Leaguer since saves became an official stat in 1969 to pitch at least 4.0 innings and earn the save in his MLB debut...the other two are STL’s Zack Thompson on June 3, 2022 and BOS’ Bob Stanley on April 16, 1977 (Elias)...Grew up in Ollie, Iowa, about a four-hour drive from in St. Louis….had a bunch of family and friends from his hometown at his debut...Had two IL stints - the first came with Sacramento on July 29-Aug. 19 and the second with SF, when he missed nine games on the COVID IL from Sept. 20-29...Struck out nine batters on Sept. 3 vs. COL...he and teammate Harrison (11, 8/28 vs. CIN) became the first Giants rookie duo to each strike out nine or more in a game in the same season since 2003, when both Jesse Foppert (10, 6/11 at CWS and 7/20 vs. COL) and Jerome Williams (9, 8/1 at CIN) did so...Winn pitched at least 3.0 innings in all nine career outings…he became just one of three Giants rookies since 2010 to pitch at least 3.0 innings in each of his first nine career games (also: Andrew Suárez in 2018 and Shaun Anderson in 2019).

Pitched at three different levels after missing 2021 recovering from Tommy John surgery...Started the year with Low-A San Jose and posted a 1-1 record with a 4.87 ERA over 13 appearances (11 starts)…fanned 55 batters over 40.2 innings (12.2 K/9) with the Giants...Promoted to High-A Eugene on June 28, where he made eight starts and was 3-2 with a 3.16 ERA....Earned another promotion, this time to Double-A Richmond, and made six starts for the Flying Squirrels...Went 2-3 with a 4.15 ERA and limited opponents to just six walks (1.8 BB/9) while striking out 24 in 30.1 innings...Overall, finished the season with a 6-6 record, 4.08 ERA and a 27.1% strikeout rate across three levels in the minors...Was selected to the Major League roster on Nov. 15.
2021
After not playing in 2020 due to there being no minor league season, Winn missed the entire ‘21 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
