Grew up in Matanzas, Cuba, located on the island’s northern coast, due east of Havana...Played six seasons professionally in Cuba…In 374 games with the Matanzas Crocodiles, posted a .794 OPS and won two Gold Gloves in center field...Also played for Cuba in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, starting six games in center field...Is known to his fans in Cuba as “El Conde.”

Thirty-one-year-old Guillermo Heredia played in his sixth big-league campaign in 2021...He finished with a .220 batting average (67-for-305), five home runs and 46 runs scored...Two of his five home runs this season came April 18 at Chicago (NL), also plated six RBI in the game...It was his first career multi-homer game and the third two-homer, six-RBI game by an Atlanta-era centerfielder...Ron Gant did it July 5, 1990 and Andrew Jones did it on July 18, 2006...As a pinch hitter in 2021, hit .250/.400/.250 (3-for-12) with three walks and three runs...Was used as a defensive replacement in centerfield late in the season...Appeared in 108 games in center (82 starts) and made three errors in 198 fielding chances (.985 fielding percentage).

In his fifth major-league season, played in 15 games between the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Mets, hitting .212/.278/.394 (7-for-33) with two home runs, five RBI and six runs scored...He was Pittsburgh’s Opening Day right fielder… Appeared in eight games with the Pirates, going 3-for-16 (.188) before getting optioned on 8/6… Designated for assignment just over two weeks later, on 8/24...Heredia appeared on an Opening Day roster for the fourth consecutive season (Seattle, 2017-18 and Tampa Bay, 2019)...Claimed off waivers by the Mets on 8/28...Began his Mets’ tenure at the club’s alternate training site in Brooklyn... Recalled on 9/21 for the final week of the regular season…Played in the each of New York’s final seven games, starting five, all in center field...Homered in his second game with the club, on 9/22 vs. Tampa Bay…Also homered in the regular-season finale at Washington…Those were his only two extra-base hits of the season...Both of his home runs came off right-handers, slugging .476 with the platoon disadvantage… Had no walks and seven strikeouts in those situations...When facing left-handers, went 3-for-12 (.250), slugging .250, but reached base in six of his 15 plate appearances (.400), also drawing three walks, against just two strikeouts.

Spent majority of season with Tampa Bay, where he made 41 appearances (35 starts) in center field, 28 appearances (15 starts) in right field and 14 appearances (five starts) in left field...Hit .281 (32-for-114) against LHP and .156 (14-for-90) against RHP...Connected off Tim Mayza for first career pinch-hit home run on 4/14 at Toronto...Produced a .306 (11-for-36) average in May after going 4-for-25 in his first 17 games thru April...Was optioned to Durham on 7/15, but did not appear in a Triple-A game before being recalled to be 26th man for doubleheader on 7/18...Returned to Durham and went 0-for-7 in two games before being recalled by Tampa Bay on 7/21...Was optioned to Triple-A on 8/23; went 6-for-21 (.286) in six games thru 9/2...Was recalled a final time on 9/3...Played all three outfield positions in the same game for the first time in his big league career on 9/13 at Los Angeles (AL).
