Ryan Joseph Borucki…Married to Leah....Attended Mundelein (Ill.) High School...Played both baseball and basketball in high school....Had committed to attending the University of Iowa prior to signing with the Blue Jays in 2012....Was a Chicago White Sox fan growing up...His favorite player was Mark Buehrle...Is an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and enjoys playing fantasy football....His father, Raymond, played professional baseball, appearing at third base, second base and shortstop after signing with Philadelphia in 1979 (he advanced to Triple-A in 1982).

2023

Began season with Iowa (Cubs’ AAA) before being designated for assignment on 5/2...Was signed by Pittsburgh as a Minor League free agent on 5/10 and assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis…Made his Indianapolis debut on 5/23 at Columbus and tossed a scoreless inning…Did not surrender a run and held opposing hitters to a .107 average in eight appearances with Indianapolis through 6/15 (8.1ip)… Was selected by the Pirates on 6/18…Made his Pirates debut on 6/19 vs. Chicago (NL)…Appeared in his 100th big league game on 6/30 vs. Milwaukee…Served as the “opener” on 7/22 at Los Angeles (AL) and struck out three batters in 1.2 scoreless innings (his first big league start since 7/27/19 while pitching for Toronto)…Tossed 2.0 scoreless innings on 8/2 vs. Detroit to lower his ERA to 2.95…Made his second start on 8/20 at Minnesota and retired all six batters he faced… Recorded a 16.0 inning scoreless streak and posted an 0.50 WHIP over his final 16 appearances from 8/20 through 9/29… Allowed just two hits in 32 at-bats over his last 11 games (both hits came in the same game on 9/20) dating back to 9/9… Had the second-most inherited runners (34) among National League pitchers dating back to his season debut on 6/19 behind Lucas Sims (39).

2022

Ryan split the 2022 season between the Blue Jays and Mariners, appearing in 32 games with a 2-0 record and a 5.68 ERA (16 ER/25.1 IP)...Had three stints on the injured list: April 4-17 (right hamstring strain), April 27-May 7 (blister) and Aug. 9 through the season's end (left forearm strain)...Was acquired by Seattle June 4 for Minor League infielder Tyler Keenan... Pitched to a 1.93 ERA (3 ER/14.0 IP) with two wins and four holds in his first 15 outings with the Mariners from June 6-July 26...opponents hit .220 in that stretch.

2021

Made a career-high 24 appearances...Earned the win April 4 at NYY as he retired both batters faced and stranded a runner on second...Was his first victory since July 27, 2020, at WAS...Placed on the injured list with a left forearm flexor strain from May 11-July 15...Pitched a scoreless 8th inning in his return from IL on July 16 vs. TEX (1H, 2K)...Optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Aug. 7 before being recalled Sept. 13...Held a 2.89 ERA (3 ER/9.1 IP) and a 1.39 WHIP in nine games for the Bisons (8BB, 12K).

2020

Recorded 21 strikeouts over 16.2 innings for an 11.34 SO/9...Surrendered just one home run over 21 appearances...His .125 AVG vs. left-handed hitters was 6th best in the AL (min. 30BF)...Made his season debut on July 27 at WAS, his first MLB outing in exactly a year...Appeared out of the bullpen for the 1st time in his career and earned the win with 1.1 innings of relief (1H, 1BB, 2K)...Was his first win since Sept. 17, 2018 at BAL....Made his postseason debut in Game 1 of the ALWC on Sept. 29 at TB and retired both batters faced (1K).

2019

Was limited to two starts due to a pair of lengthy stints on the injured list...Made five Spring Training starts, going 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA (6 ER/16.2 IP) and a .254 OBA, but then missed Toronto's first 101 regular season games due to left elbow inflammation...Posted a 3.00 ERA (6 ER/18.0 IP) over four rehab starts across three levels: one for the GCL club, one for Advanced-A Dunedin and two for Triple-A Buffalo...Came off the 60-day IL to make his season debut on July 22 vs. CLE...Lasted 4.2 innings, allowing 4R/2ER on seven hits (4BB, 3K) while throwing 94 pitches (47 strikes)...Gave him 12 starts of 2ER-or-less, the most by any Blue Jay all-time in his first 18 career games (Juan Guzman - 11, Gustavo Chacin - 11)...Became the 10th player in team history to reach 100+ IP within his first 18 MLB contests, and the first to do so since Henderson Alvarez in 2011-2012...Was also one of 11 Toronto pitchers to reach the 70-SO mark in that time frame...Made his 2nd and final start of the season on July 27 vs. TB...Allowed six earned runs to tie a career high over just 2.0 innings of work (8H, 2HR, 2BB, 3K)...Landed on the IL for the 2nd time on July 28 with left elbow inflammation and remained there for the rest of the season...Underwent surgery to remove a spur in his left elbow on Aug. 8 with Dr. James Andrews.

Assigned to the Advanced-A Dunedin Blue Jays for the start of the 2017 season ... Pitched in 19 games (18 starts) for Dunedin, going 6-5 with a 3.58 ERA and 109 strikeouts over 98.0 innings ... Was promoted to Double-A New Hampshire on July 20 ... Made his AA debut on July 23 at Trenton, throwing seven scoreless innings while allowing just two hits (2BB, 4K) ... After seven starts with the Fisher Cats (2-3, 1.94 ERA) was promoted to Triple-A Buffalo on Aug. 29 ... Made one start for the Bisons, taking the mound on Aug. 31 vs. Pawtucket, striking out six batters over six scoreless innings while allowing six hits and one walk ... At the end of the season, was named an Organizational All-Star by MiLB.com ... Was added to Toronto's 40-man roster after the season to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft.

2016

Assigned to the Advanced-A Dunedin Blue Jays to open the 2016 minor league season...Struggled with Dunedin, posting a 14.40 ERA through six starts before being assigned to the Class A Lansing Lugnuts...With the Lugnuts made 20 starts and posted a 10-4 record, 2.41 ERA, and 107 strikeouts..Was added to Toronto's 40-man roster after the season to protect him from the Rule 5 draft...Held RH hitters to a .158 average at New Hampshire and Buffalo combined...LH hitters batted .310.
