Acquired by the Padres in a 9-player trade with CLE on August 31, making 4 starts for SD with a 2.84 ERA and .212 opponent AVG... Between SD and CLE, he posted a 3.02 ERA in 8 starts with 40 SO against 14 BB... After receiving zero runs of support in his SD debut on Sept. 3 @ LAA (6.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER), he received 19 runs of support across his final 3 outings...the 9.00 run support average from his SD debut until the end of the regular season T-3rd highest among all NL pitchers (min. 4 starts)...Between both CLE and SD, 9 of his 14 earned runs and 5 of his 6 HR allowed came in the 1st inning, posting a 10.13 ERA (9 ER, 8.0 IP) in the 1st frame...he had sub-3.00 ERAs in every other frame, including a 2.57 ERA in the 2nd, a 1.29 ERA in both the 3rd and 4th, a 1.50 ERA in the 5th and was scoreless when he worked into the 6th (4.2 IP) and 7th (2.0 IP) innings...
