Established himself as one of the top third basemen in baseball and was named 2006 Les Milgram Royals Player of the Year, sparked by one of the best 2nd-halves in the Majors...saw dramatic improvement over his rookie season by hitting .290 (114-393) with 70 runs, 21 doubles, 7 triples, 18 homers and 69 RBI...Saw a historic jump in slugging pct. from his rookie season to his sophomore year...posted a .517 slugging pct. after recording a .376 pct. in 2005...that .141 jump was the 2nd-most in all of baseball from 2005 to 2006, trailing Carlos Beltran who saw a jump of .180...the jump was also the 3rd-largest in Royals history and the highest-ever between rookie and sophomore seasons...finally, Teahen's .141 increase was the 17th-largest increase in baseball since 1876 among players between their 1st and 2nd years (all min. 375 at bats)...Posted a .874 OBP+SLG, the 2nd-highest in the American League among all 3rd basemen, trailing just New York's Alex Rodriguez...the .874 OPS is the highest ever recorded by a Royals third baseman not named George Brett...Finished the season 10-for-10 on stolen base attempts...became 1 of 3 players in franchise history to steal at least 10 bases without being caught...Gary Thurman was 16-for-16 in 1989 and Carlos Beltran was 13-for-13 in 2000...was last caught stealing on Aug. 25, 2005 - Enjoyed a solid rookie season, hitting .246 (110-447) with 60 runs, 29 doubles, 4 triples, 7 home runs and 55 RBI...Made an Opening Day roster for the 1st time in his career...Ranked in the Royals top 10 in several rookie categories including runs (8th), hits (t-9th), doubles (4th), RBI (9th) and strikeouts (3rd, 107)...Fell just 4 doubles shy of Mark Quinn's rookie record of 33 doubles in 2000...Finished strong posting his best month in September, hitting .295 (28-95) with 8 doubles, 4 home runs, 21 RBI and a .505 slugging percentage...was named Royals Player of the Month for September...Hit just .230 (80-348) with 3 home runs and 34 RBI in his 1st 102 games, but .303 (30-99) with 4 home runs and 21 RBI in his final 28 games...Struggled vs. left-handed pitchers, recording just a .200 (24-120) average against southpaws while hitting .263 (86-327) against righties...Hit .288 (40-139) during day games and just .227 (70-308) at night...Made just 2 errors in his fi nal 38 games after committing 18 errors in his 1st 90 games...Made his Major League debut on April 4 at Detroit...went 0-for-4 with an error...became just the 3rd Royals rookie in history to make his Major League debut in the starting lineup on Opening Day...joined Michael Tucker (1995) and Joe Zdeb (1977)...Recorded his 1st Major League hit in the 4th inning at Detroit on April 6...hit an RBI triple off Mike Maroth...it also was his 1st ML RBI...Left the game on April 11 vs. Seattle with a low back strain...placed on the 15-Day D.L. on April 13...Reinstated from the 15-Day D.L. on May 3 after missing 18 games...hit .259 (7-27) with 2 doubles, 4 RBI and 7 walks in 8 games on a rehab assignment at Omaha...Recorded his 1st multi-hit game of career going 2-for-3 with a walk at Chicago (AL) on May 4...Had a 6-game hitting streak May 8-13...hit .350 (7-for-20) during the streak...Hit his 1st career home run off the Cardinals' Matt Morris May 21...Drove in a then-career high 3 runs and hit his 2nd-career HR May 29 at Los Angeles (AL)...Recorded his 1st 3-hit game June 9 at San Francisco, going 3-for-5...had 3 more hits and scored a career-high 3 runs on June 12 at Arizona...Posted a career-high 4 hits in an 8-7 loss to Texas on Sept. 2...recorded a pair of doubles and drove in 3...Hit 4 home runs in a span of 14 games from Sept. 16-29 after hitting only 3 home runs in his previous 102 games...his final 3 home runs of the season tied games for the Royals...Recorded his 1st career grand slam in a loss to Cleveland on Sept. 22...the 440-foot blast into the fountains in right-center tied the game at 5...Homered in back-to-back games for the 1st time in his career on Sept. 22 and 23...both homers tied the game...Recorded at least 1 hit in each of his last 10 starts of the season...hit .350 (14-40) with 9 runs and 8 RBI in those 10 starts.
