The 20-year-old pitched better in the second half of his first full Major League season, striking out 20 with just two walks over his final three starts. He allowed one run in seven innings of his final start on Sept. 30 against Texas, as he earned his 12th victory of the season. Hernandez struck out 176 in 191 innings for the Mariners, and had his first shutout on Aug. 18 against the Angels.
