Cha (cha) Seung (sung) Baek (beck)...graduated from Pusan High School in Pusan, South Korea in 1998...led his team to a second place finish at the 1998 Korean National High School tournament...considered the top high school pitching prospect in Korea...also played third base, first base and outfield...hit 10 home runs as a senior.
2008
Appeared in 22 games for the Padres, making 20 starts... combined to make 32 appearances between his two stops (21 starts)...Went 5-10 with a 4.62 ERA (58 ER/113.0 IP) as a starter...1-0 with a 5.46 ERA (17 ER/28.0 IP) in 11 relief appearances...Knocked his first career home run 7/20 at STL, a two-run shot off Jaime Garcia...Posted a 0.98 ERA (2 ER/18.1 IP) along with a 2-0 record in his last four starts of the year from 9/8-28...On 9/8 vs. LA (NL), tossed 7.0 scoreless innings and earned his first home win since 9/27/07 vs. CLE with the Mariners...Worked 2.0 innings on 9/14 vs. SF before leaving the game with a strained right triceps...left his last start on 9/28 vs. PIT after 2.1 frames of work with a left calf strain...Opened the season with the Mariners, making the Opening Day roster for the first time in his career.
2006
Recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Aug. 22, Baek was 4-1 with a 3.67 ERA in six starts before being sidelined the last week of the season with tendinitis in his right triceps. He's expected to be healthy for Spring Training. Baek was 12-4 with a 3.00 ERA before his promotion. Baek's best outing with Seattle came on Sept. 8, when he threw seven scoreless innings in a victory over Texas. Baek could make a push for a spot in the starting rotation in 2007.
2005
Started 21 games for Triple-A Tacoma and surrendered more hits (147) than innings pitched (113 2/3) and also walked 36 batters. That led to a high (6.41) ERA with the Pacific Coast League North Division champions.
2004
Recalled on Aug. 6, making his Major League debut on Aug. 8 at Tampa Bay, pitching one shutout inning.
Optioned back to Tacoma on Aug. 10.
Was 1 of 15 players to make their Major League debuts for Seattle this season.
1 of 10 players born in Korea to play in the Major Leagues.
Recalled to Seattle on Aug. 28 and finished the year in the Majors.
Picked up first ML win, tossing 2.0 shutout innings in 12-inning win in Game #2 vs. KC, Aug. 28.

Spent majority of the year with Tacoma, making 11 starts and posting a 4-3, 4.28 mark.

On the disabled list, May 16-July 10, with a strained middle finger on his throwing hand.
Made two rehab starts with Peoria, July 2 and 7 (7.0,3,2,1,1,5).

Split 2003 season between Inland Empire and San Antonio...Started the season with Inland Empire appearing in 13 games (10 starts)...Pitched 10 scoreless innings in two starts from April 19-24...Won three consecutive starts from April 19-30...Was on DL from May 8-June 10 with a right elbow inflammation...Transferred to San Antonio from Inland Empire on July 17...Carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, retiring 21 of the first 22 batters faced, before allowing a single, on July 23.
2002
Missed entire season after undergoing right elbow surgery...participated in the Mariners Fall Instructional League.
2001
Spent most season on San Bernardino's disabled list...made 2 starts before being placed on the DL from April 13-May 14 with soreness in his right elbow...pitched in 3 games, 2 starts, in May before suffering a strained right elbow in his final start of the season, May 25 vs. Midvale...was back on the DL June 6 through the end of the season.
2000
Was 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 9 home starts with Wisconsin...placed on the disabled list June 2 with a right arm flexor strain...went 5-3 after coming off the DL June 15...listed among Baseball America's top-20 Midwest League prospects at the end of the season.
1999
Made his professional debut with Peoria...struck out 8 batters over 5.0 innings in first pro start and win against the Rockies on July 18.
