Reported to spring training healthy before suffering a re-fracture of his right elbow (olecranon - prominent bone of the elbow joint) on March 10 after feeling persistent soreness in the elbow after a series of bullpens. Underwent surgery on March 16 at the Cleveland Clinic (Dr. Thomas Graham). Made three Minor League rehab starts between the Arizona Rookie League Indians and Double-A Akron, beginning on August 19. Activated from 60-day DL on September 1 and made seven relief appearances for Cleveland over the final five weeks of the season. Made return to the Majors after over 14 months off on Sept. 2 at Toronto with a perfect seventh inning and tossed two shutout innings in Detroit on Sept. 5. His last Major League appearance prior to Sept. 2 came in a June 19, 2014 start for Atlanta at Washington (W, 6.0IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 6K. His prior MLB relief app. before Sept. 2 was May 28, 2011 CWS @TOR (14.0-inning game). Worked a season-high three innings in his last outing of Sept. 30 vs. Minnesota (G1) and over his last two outings allowed just one run over 5 2/3 IP. Promising comeback from 2013 reconstructive elbow surgery ended on one pitch in W ashington in the 7th inning on June 19 as he was fashioning a 2-hit shutout against the Nationals (6.0IP , 2H, 0R, 1BB, 6K , 63 P )...Was signed by the Atlanta Braves in December 2013 to a one-year deal after electing free agency following 7 seasons in Chicago from 2007-13...Was limited to 5 starts in 2013 with the White Sox and has tossed only 78.2IP over the last two seasons.

The procedure was performed by Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY. With an 0-4 record, snapped his string of five consecutive seasons with double-digit wins. Amassed 25 strikeouts in 24.1 innings pitched. Spanning his five games started, White Sox batters scored just seven runs (1.4 runs/game). Worked 2.2 innings in his final start of the season on 4/27 vs. TB prior to leaving due to injury. Was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 4/28 and transferred to the 60-day disabled list on 5/7.
