Rivera set career highs in home runs (23), RBIs (85), average (.310), runs (65) and hits (139) as he became an everyday player for the Angels midway through the season. His previous bests in home runs and RBIs were 15 and 59, respectively, set in 2005. He hit nearly 60 points higher after the All-Star break than before it (.335 to .277). Rivera tied the club record for home runs in the month of July with 11 (Don Baylor, 1979). Rivera led all American League outfielders with 13 assists. He missed 20 games with a strained left rib cage in the early part of the season.
