Established career highs in games played (157), at-bats (578), hits (156) and triples (five), while matching his career high in RBIs at 69. He ranked second on the White Sox in hits and stolen bases (16) and third in runs scored (77). Finished with a .270 average, down 40 points from 2004, and 13 home runs, down 11 from last season. Became the first White Sox player since Lance Johnson (1990-95) to make three consecutive Opening Day starts in center field. Hit .303 off left-handers and .258 off right-handers. Ten of his 13 homers came off righties, and eight of those home runs came at home. Hit .313 with runners on base and .290 with runners in scoring position. Was hit by a pitch 21 times, tied for second-most in the American League, and the second-most in a single season in White Sox history. Compiled a .992 fielding percentage with three errors and three assists as one of the top defensive center fielders in the AL. Matched a career-high with four hits on Sept. 13 at Kansas City, but batted .185 in his final 19 games after the four-hit effort. Rowand was the White Sox recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award.
