Spent first season with Washington after signing as minor league free agent February 17 and was non-roster invite to spring training. Placed on disabled list April 27 with a right calf strain; reinstated June 1, missing 45 games... Posted a 1.53 ERA (29.1 IP, 5 ER) with four walks and 20 strikeouts from July 7 through the end of the season. Allowed just two earned runs in final 16.0 IP (1.13 ERA)... Allowed just two home runs on the season, one of five pitchers in the AL to allow two-or-fewer homers (minimum of 45.0 innings pitched)... Posted career-highs in ERA (1.76), hits-per-9.0 IP (8.41) and walks-per-9.0 IP (1.37)...his 1.09 WHIP and 4.57 strikeouts-per-walk were his best marks since 2010.... Went 1-1 with a 2.67 ERA in 34 appearances, his fewest since 2009, after missing 68 games with a right elbow injury...it was his first DL stint since the end of September 2008 (422 appearances between injuries)...allowed only one HR in 33.2 innings, ranking ninth among NL relievers in HR per nine innings (0.27)...of his 34 hits allowed, only six went for extra bases...tossed six outings of four outs or more, all scoreless, with a season high of 2.2 IP on May vs. ARI...allowed runs in only 7-of-34 total appearances, and only one run in five of those seven...posted a 1.20 ERA in 16 appearances (15.0 IP) against NL Central opponents.

Had 66 appearances with Colorado, including one start. It marked his 5th-straight season of at least 65 appearances. Threw at least 1.0 inning in 49 of his 64 relief apps. and was 3-2 with a 3.69 ERA (53.2 IP/22 ER) during those 49 games. Allowed just one run in nine relief appearances during May for an ERA of 0.90 (10.0 IP/1 ER). Earned wins in consecutive appearances 6/13 & 6/15 at SF, both Rockies come-from-behind wins...last time he earned the win in back-to-back games was 5/28/13 at HOU and 6/1/13 vs. LAD. Made his 1st start 8/15/14 vs. CIN since a start on 5/25/08 at SD for Cincinnati...was a spot-start in which he went 3.0 innings and allowed 1 run on 4 hits with one walk and one strikeout.

2-4 and scored 30 runs (5 runs per game)...from 5/10-5/20 had 9 days off between starts...was scheduled
to start on 5/15 vs FLA, but that game was rained out and he was skipped in the rotation...made his last
appearance for the Reds in the 18-inning, 12-9 loss on 5/25 at SD, a game in which the Reds used 24 players...
when the team headed north he remained in Sarasota at extended spring training...made 3 minor
league rehab appearances, one each for Single-A Sarasota and Double-A Chattanooga and Louisville...in
those 3 starts, he combined to go 3-0, 1.09 before he was reinstated from the DL on 4/21...on 9/9 was
recalled and placed on the 60-day DL with the knee injury to make room on the roster for September
callups...on 12/12 was not tendered a contract and became a free agent.
