Shawn A. Chacon (pronounced "shah-CONE")...Attended Greeley (CO) Central High School...went 10-0 with two saves and a 1.51 ERA during his senior season, guiding the Wildcats to the state championship game...almost won as many games (10) as earned runs allowed (14)...led his summer Legion club, Greeley GoJo Sports, to three consecutive state titles...in January of 2002, Greeley Central retired his jersey number 40...he is only the second athlete to have his number retired in the 123-year history of the school (Tad Boyle was the other - basketball - in 1982)...chose to play for Rockies over a college career at Arizona State.
2007
Went 4-3 with a 3.52 ERA in 60 relief appearances and 1-1 with a 5.59 ERA in four starts...began season in the bullpen and retired each of the six batters he faced in season debut on 4/4 at Houston...was charged with two earned runs in his first five outings (12.0ip/2er - 1.50 ERA)...worked 4.0 scoreless innings in Pittsburgh's 4-3, 16-inning win vs. Houston on 4/25...tossed 3.0 scoreless frames while making 200th career appearance on 5/2 at Chicago (NL)...scattered two hits in a career-high 5.0 innings of scoreless relief while picking up first win on 5/17 vs. Florida (also singled in the game)...was leading all Major League relief pitchers in innings pitched (33.2) prior to making first start on 5/26 at Cincinnati; received a no-decision (3.2ip/3h/1r/1er) in Pirates 9-5 victory...whiffed 10 batters in 7.0 scoreless innings and was in line for the win in second start, but received a no-decision on 5/31 vs. San Diego (the Padres won 4-2 in 11 innings)...picked up lone win as a starter on 6/4 at Washington (his first victory as a starter since 9/20/06 at Los Angeles)...recorded the final two outs and picked up lone save on 6/19 at Seattle, his first save since 9/22/04...suffered first of team-high seven blown saves on 6/22 at Los Angeles (AL)...was scored upon once over an 11-game stretch from 6/29 thru 7/25 (12.1ip/1er)...walked four batters (one intentional) in 1.2 innings while taking the loss in 5-4 walkoff defeat on 7/14 in Atlanta...was scored upon in six straight appearances from 7/26 thru 8/9 (5.2ip/7er) and in eight of his 10 games from 7/26 thru 8/11 (9.0ip/12er)...was scored upon just twice in final 16 outings after 8/11 (13.2ip/2er - 1.32 ERA)...made last appearance on 9/19; did not pitch in final 10 games due to tightness in right elbow.
