In 1990 graduated from Northwest High School in Cincinnati, where he played baseball, basketball and soccer...also played 4 years of baseball at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio...graduated from MU with a bachelor's degree in geology.

2007

Posted a 4.22era in 46 relief apps for the Astros' Class AAA Round Rock affiliate and the Blue Jays' Class A Dunedin and Class AAA Syracuse affiliates...began the season with the Astros but was released on 6/19 after posting a 3.93era in 18 apps at Round Rock...on 6/25 was signed by the Blue Jays to a minor league contract...pitched in 5g for Dunedin before he was promoted on 7/11...spent the rest of the season with Syracuse...became a free agent following the season and on 1/22/08 was signed by the Reds to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League spring training camp.

2006

Signed by Oakland as a free agent on 6/19 after he was released by Cleveland on 6/16...posted a 3.65 ERA in 22 relief appearances with the A's...went 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in 24 relief outings with Cleveland...overall, he was 0-1 with a 4.97 ERA in 46 appearances...46 games were his fewest games pitched in his seven Major League seasons and his ERA was the secondhighest of his career (5.60 in 2001)...held the opposition to a .234 average but walked 18 batters in 25.1 innings, an average of 6.39 per nine innings...allowed all three of his home runs to lefties...first batters he faced hit .167 (6x36), including nine walks and a hit batter...the batting average was lowest among Major League relievers...allowed seven of 28 (25 pct.) inherited runners to score...hit six batters in his 12.1 innings with the A's and had a career-high seven hit batters overall, which tied for second-most among AL relievers...compiled a 3.52 ERA (3ER/7.2IP) in 11 outings on no days rest and a 5.61 ERA (11ER/17.2IP) in his other 35 outings...tossed more than 1.0 inning in just two of his 46 outings and tossed fewer than 1.0 inning in 29 outings...his longest outings were 1.1 innings on 7/1 at ARI and 9/2 at BAL...placed on the DL on on 7/27, retroactive to 7/26, with a strained groin...made one rehab appearance with Triple A Sacramento on 8/7 and one with with Single A Stockton on 8/9 before he was reinstated from the DL on 8/10.

Began season with St. Lucie (Mets' A)...Was twice named the Florida State League's Pitcher-of-the-Week... Produced a 28-inning scoreless streak...Tied for league lead in shutouts (2)...Made last eight starts of the season with Binghamton...Went a combined 9-9 with a 2.65 ERA in 25 games (24 starts) with the two clubs.

1997

Began season with Binghamton (Mets' AA)...Picked up first win in a relief role on 4/18 @Norwich...Was promoted to Norfolk on 8/2 and started that night @Charlotte...Returned to Double-A the following day...Lost four straight decisions with Binghamton from 7/22 thru 8/21...Hurled 8.0 scoreless innings on 8/25 @Akron...Participated in the Arizona Fall League and went 1-1 with a 2.68 ERA with Grand Canyon.

1998

Spent entire season with Norfolk (Mets' AAA) and was used exclusively as a starter for the first time in his career...Led club in starts and complete games and finished 8th in the International League with a 3.93 ERA... Established minor league career highs in innings pitched and strikeouts...Was named to the International League's mid-season All-Star team...Hurled 8.0 scoreless frames on 6/27 @Syracuse...Went 4-7 with a 3.01 ERA in his first 15 starts thru the end of June, but went 3-6 with a 5.19 ERA in his final 12 starts...Lost four consecutive starts from 7/2-24...Snapped four-game losing streak with a four-hitter vs. Charlotte on 8/8...Won three straight decisions from 8/8-25...Went 3-1 with a 1.91 ERA (37.2ip/8er) in six starts during the month of August...Pitched with Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League and went 4-3 with a 3.35 ERA (45.2IP/17ER) in 10 games/8GS.

Spent rookie season with Pittsburgh after being selected in the ML Rule 5 draft on 12/14/98...Led staff in appearances; the most by a left-handed rookie in club history...Held opponents to a .220 batting average; left-handed batters hit just .167 (15-90)...Made major league debut on 4/5 and tossed 2.1 scoreless innings vs. Montreal... Tossed season-high 3.0 hitless innings and picked up first ML win in 2nd outing on 4/10 vs. Chicago (NL)...Made 14 consecutive appearances without surrendering a run from 5/15 thru 6/25 (13.0IP)...Streak was snapped when he surrendered a grand slam to Jeromy Burnitz @Milwaukee on 6/27 (entered game with bases loaded)...Surrendered 2HR (to lefties David Justice and Jim Thome) in the Pirates' 13-10 win over Cleveland @Three Rivers on 7/17... Recorded first big-league save on 9/17 vs. Cincinnati and picked up #2 on 9/30 @Milwaukee...Made 18 straight appearances without being charged with an earned run from 8/17 thru 9/30 (17.1IP/2ER), lowering ERA from 2.64 to 1.94.

Ranked seventh among National League pitchers in appearances...struck out a career-high five batters in 2.0 innings of work at Atlanta on 4/21...surrendered just one earned run in an 18-game stretch from 4/18-5/20 (17.0IP), dropping his ERA from 8.59 to 2.96 (only time below 3.00 all season)...placed on 15-day DL with a left elbow sprain on 6/15...made two scoreless appearances with Triple A Nashville while on a rehab assignment from 6/29-7/2...was reinstated on 7/3...combined with Jimmy Anderson and Marc Wilkins on a 6-0 shutout vs. LAD on 8/1 (game one) - left the game after being hit on the elbow by Chad Kreuter's line drive in the ninth inning...earned his only save of the season with a scoreless inning of relief at San Diego on 9/2...was the losing pitcher in the final baseball game ever played at Three Rivers Stadium on 10/1 vs. CHI (NL)... inherited a team-high 49 runners and allowed 15 to score.

2001

Agreed to terms on a three-year contract on 3/5...spent the entire season with PIT...ranked second on the staff in appearances behind Josias Manzanillo (71)...went 1-1 with a 9.42 ERA (30ER/28.2IP) in 37 games against NL Central teams and 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA (9ER/34IP) in his other 33 appearances...recorded first save on 6/19 vs. PHI...tied career-high with five strikeouts on 7/15 vs. LAD...was not charged with an earned run in eight games during the month of August...made 200th career appearance on 9/7 vs. CIN...notched second save on 10/1 at NYM (last ML save)...surrendered six hits and six runs in final appearance (0.1IP) on 10/6 at CHI (NL)...went 2x4 in save situations and allowed just 11 of his 44 inherited runners to score.

Spent his fourth consecutive full season with Pittsburgh...established a club record for the most appearances by a left-handed pitcher (previous mark of 76 was held by Rod Scurry in 1982)...became the first Bucco pitcher to appear in 70 or more games in three consecutive years since Kent Tekulve (1982-84)...led all NL left-handers in appearances and tied for fifth overall among NL relievers...tallied the second-most strikeouts (70) by a left-handed reliever in the NL (Houston's Billy Wagner had 88)...held opponents to a team-low .220 batting average and topped the relievers in strikeouts...did not surrender a run in his first 16 appearances at PNC Park (16.0IP ) through 6/22...suffered his first loss on 7/26 at Houston, his first defeat since 5/24/01 (a stretch of 97 games)...surrendered just one home run in his first 53 games thru 8/1 (Todd Hollandsworth at Colorado on 5/1)...struck out four batters in 2.0 innings on 8/11 at San Francisco...was charged with just six earned runs in 48 games from 5/24 thru 9/13 (37.2IP, 1.43 ERA)...limited left-handed hitters to a .147 (14x95) average.

Set a career-high in outings with 79 for the second consecutive season (78 in 2002)...did not allow an earned run in 17 consecutive outings from 7/2-8/12 (9.1IP)...closed the season by allowing 11 runs on 12 hits over his last 16 games (10.0IP)...was tied for the NL lead in appearances when he was traded to Boston on 7/22 in a four-player deal...left the Pirates with 341 appearances (11th most in club history)...lefties hit .192 (20x104) off him for the year after they hit .147 (14x95) off him in 2002...issued 43 walks in 56.2 innings...was on the Red Sox postseason roster and appeared in Game 2 of the ALCS vs. New York (0.1IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 0K)...recorded 70 or more appearances in four straight seasons from 2000-03 and his 302 appearances over that four-year span was the third highest total in baseball behind Paul Quantrill (323) and Steve Kline (316).

2005

Made 58 relief apps for the Indians...spent much of the season as the only lefthander in their bullpen... lefthanded batters hit just .162...stranded 38-45 inherited baserunners (84%), fourth-best percentage among American League relievers...first batters hit just .163, fifth-best mark in the AL...did not allow a run in 47 of his 58 apps...the Tribe went 31-27 when he pitched...on 4/9 at Det threw 3.0 innings, tying his career high, with a season-best 4 strikeouts...on 7/6 vs Det pitched in his 400th career game...on 8/9 at KC recorded his first win in the AL and his first since 6/25/03 at Mtl...from 5/29-6/22 made 9 consecutive scoreless apps (5.1ip)... from 8/2-9/3 made 13 consecutive scoreless apps (7.2ip), tied with Bob Howry for the best streak among all Indians relievers...posted a 20.25era in September allowed allowing 3 earned runs in a pair of outings...was eligible for free agency following the season but in January was re-signed to a minor league contract.

2004

Missed the entire season with an injury...in January had surgery to repair the torn labrum and torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder...in April was signed by the Indians to a minor league contract and spent the year rehabbing between Cle and Florida...following the regular season pitched in the Florida Instructional League and in the Dominican Winter League...was added to the 40-man roster on 10/13...the Indians exercised his 2005 contract option on 11/19.
