Veteran outfielder was one of most consistent hitters for Giants throughout season, hitting career-best .306 (183-for-598) with 84 runs, 38 2Bs, 2 3Bs, 10 HRs and 64 RBI in team-high 155 games...also went 25-for-27 in stolen base attempts, 3rd-most swipes in his career and most since stealing 27 bases with Tampa Bay in 2002...his 183 hits marked most in his career (2 more than previous high of 181 in 2002), 4th-most in NL behind NYM's Jose Reyes (204) and David Wright (189) and STL's Albert Pujols (187)... also ranked among NL leaders in avg. (7th), stolen bases (T10th - 25), avg. vs. right-handers (10th - .313), sacrifice flies (T5th - 9) and multi-hit games (12th - 49)...hit safely in 114 of 149 starts (127 in RF, 7 CF, 13 in LF, 2 as DH)...started in RF Opening Day March 31 at Los Angeles-NL, his 8th-straight Opening Day start...was slowed by pair of ailments in April, missing April 20 game in St. Louis with bruise on right foot (suffered by fouling pitch off foot previous day)...also missed April 24 and 25 games with stiff neck...recorded season-high 15-game hitting streak May 6-20, hitting .367 (22-for-60) with 13 runs, 7 2Bs, 3B, 2 HRs and 5 RBI...homered from both sides of plate twice, marking 1st time he's accomplished feat twice in 1 season...achieved feat May 29 at Arizona, with 2nd HR of that game being game-winning blast in 9th inning (off Chad Qualls) that snapped 3-3 tie in SF's 4-3 triumph...marked his 1st multi-HR contest batting both left and right-handed in game...was also 1st by SF batter from both sides of plate since Ray Durham July 25, 2006 at Washington (however, prior to that no Giant had done it since 1993 - Todd Benzinger at Florida)...accomplished feat for 2nd time Aug. 30 at Cincinnati, hitting his 16th career leadoff HR as left-handed batter off RHP Ramon Ramirez, then hitting another solo shot in 8th frame as right-hander off LHP Bill Bray... marked his 5th career multi-HR contest...is only Giant to have homered from both sides of plate and to have hit for cycle while wearing Giant uniform...slugged leadoff HR June 2 vs. Mets, opening SF's 6-run 1st inning off Oliver Perez...overall, belted 3 leadoff HR's in 2008 (June 2 vs. NYM, Aug. 20 vs. FLA and Aug. 30 at CIN)...had torrid month of Aug., hitting for 3rd-highest avg. in NL (.400, 46-for-115), trailing ATL's Martin Prado (.432) and LA's Manny Ramirez (.415)...also finished month ranking 1st in hits (46), tied for 6th in runs (21), tied for 6th in 2Bs (9) and 11th for on-base pct. (.432)...clubbed his 100th career roundtripper Aug. 15 at Atlanta, solo blast off Will Ohman in 8th inning...ranked 15th in NL with .332 avg. (89-for-268) following All-Star Break.

Was SF's most consistent player, putting together solid season across board...led club in games (155), avg. (.300), hits (178), 2Bs (42), extra-base hits (57), 3-hit games (16) and multi-hit contests (47)...also finished 4th with 14 HRs and 5th with 65 RBI...started 143 games (98 in RF, 31 in CF, 14 in LF), hitting safely in team-high 112 contests...with 42 2Bs, became just 6th player in SF history to post 40 2Bs in season (tied for 6th-best single-season total in franchise annals)...was also 1st qualifying Giant other than Barry Bonds to hit .300 since Marquis Grissom in 2003...ended season on tear to reach .300 mark, going 12-for-21 (.571) with 4 2Bs, 2 HRs and 6 RBI over his final 6 games...however, was truly .300 hitter for majority of season...after avg. dipped to .192 April 22, batted .311 (168-for-541) over his last 139 games...in fact, hit at .321 clip (90-for-278) with 20 2Bs, 9 HRs and 41 RBI beginning July 7 (75 contests)...scorched lefthanded pitching to tune of .351 avg. (65-for- 185)...had career-high 20-game hitting streak April 29-May 21...was longest hitting streak by switch-hitter in SF history, with previous mark being 19-gamer by Willie McGee in 1993...was tied for 6th-longest streak in SF history (7th occurrence) and 18th-best run in franchise annals (23rd time)...in fact, was longest by Giant since Robby Thompson had 21-game run in 1993...had pair of leadoff HRs (13th career, 8th with Giants), opening May 29 game in New York and June 3 contest at Philadelphia with clouts...hammered 6th career grand slam (1st with Giants) July 14 vs. LA...took Chin-hui Tsao deep after suffering right foot contusion on foul ball on previous pitch, injury that forced him to leave contest...made ML debut at 3B for final out of 10th inning June 8 vs. Oakland, ending frame by catching foul pop...that contest also featured Giants 3B Pedro Feliz making debut at catcher and LHP Noah Lowry playing RF for 1st time.
2006
Was one of SF's most durable players, logging 149 games despite knee injury that lingered for season's final 5 months...made 136 starts, including at least 10 opening assignments at all 3 outfield positions (69 in RF, 57 in CF and 10 in LF)...his 359 total chances were tied for 6thmost in NL, while he was 12th with .992 fielding pct. (3 errors)...also tied for 10th in league with club-high 8 OF assists...endured worst offensive season since 2000, batting .262...still ranked 2nd on Giants with 34 2Bs and 3rd with 35 multi-hit contests...however, season was derailed when he fouled ball off his knee May 8 vs. Houston...severe contusion never fully healed, contributing heavily to 2nd-half slump which saw him hit just .249 (57-for-229) with 3 HRs and 19 RBI after All-Star Break...did reach base safely to open 1st inning in 44 of his last 106 starts in leadoff spot, going 33- for-95 (.347) with 22 runs, 9 2Bs, 2 HRs and 11 walks...compiled career-high 12-game hitting streak April 6-20...belted pair of leadoff homers, his 5th and 6th with SF and 10th and 11th of career...went deep to open May 15 game at Houston (off Taylor Buchholz) and to inaugurate Aug. 24 contest vs. Cincinnati (off Eric Milton).
2005
Began year with Seattle, but returned to Bay Area when he was acquired by SF July 30...all told, set career highs in batting avg. (.306), games (160), hits (189), 2Bs (47) and HRs (20)...also scored 85 runs, rapped out 6 3Bs, and stole 19 bases (in 30 attempts)...was truly spectacular after donning Giants uniform, batting .359 (83-for-231) with 39 runs, 22 2Bs, 5 3Bs, 14 HRs, 26 RBI, .391 on-base pct. and .680 slugging mark in 58 games...beginning with SF debut Aug. 2, ranked among baseball's leaders in avg. (3rd), hits (1st), runs (T14th), 2Bs (1st), 3Bs (T3rd), HRs (T11th) and slugging (1st)...with 14 HRs as Giant, had 2nd most clouts in franchise history by player acquired in middle of campaign...only Kevin Mitchell's 15 HRs in 1987 are better...perhaps most important, SF was 29-26 (.527) in his 55 starts...posted 25 multi-hit games with Giants, including quartet of 4-hit efforts...hit safely in 43 of his Giants contests overall...led off 15 of his final 28 starts in top spot with hit or walk, while reaching base safely in initial at-bat as leadoff hitter in 20 of his final 36 starts as lineup's opening man (18-for-34, .529, 4 HRs and 2 walks, beginning Aug. 22)...was elected National League's Player of Month for Sept., becoming 1st Giant other than Barry Bonds to win monthly honor since Jeff Kent in June, 2000...led majors with 51 hits, most by any Giants player in any single month in at least 30 years...also paced big leagues with .447 avg. (51-for-114), 100 total bases and .877 slugging pct., while his 11 HRs matched HOU's Lance Berkman, CLE's Travis Hafner and BOS's David Ortiz for top honors...capped sensational run by earning NL Player of Week honors for Sept. 26-Oct. 3...belted 4 leadoff HRs with Giants (upping carer total to 9)...reached McCovey Cove with clout Sept. 14 off San Diego's Woody Williams, as he became 7th Giant to record "Splash Hit" at SBC Park...had 8 straight hits (with walk) over parts of 3 games Sept. 25-27...singled in last at-bat Sept. 25 at Colorado, went 4-for-4 with walk next night in San Diego, then had hits in 1st 3 at-bats Sept. 27 at PETCO Park...registered pair of multi-HR games, going deep twice Sept. 3 at Arizona and then again Sept. 30 vs. Diamondbacks at China Basin...in fact, hit at .368 clip (42-for-114) with 14 2Bs, 2 3Bs and 7 HRs in 29 games on Shores of McCovey Cove...became 21st player in franchise history (8th in SF annals) to hit for cycle when he collected single, double, triple and home run Aug. 15 at Cincinnati...hit .275 in 102 games with Seattle, but was hot over final month in Pacific Northwest...in fact, was .348 hitter (108-for-310) with 26 2Bs, 5 3Bs and 18 HRs over his final 79 games overall.
2004
Was Seattle's Opening Day center fielder, after serving as club's starting left fielder in 2003...made 119 starts in CF, with 32 opening assignments in LF...enjoyed excellent season at plate, batting .286 while matching career high with 14 HRs and setting standard with 81 RBI...also matched career high with 157 games played...opened season slowly, batting .243 (42-for-173) over 1st 2 months, while going 191 at-bats before initial clout of season...however, beginning with 4-for-5 effort with HR June 6 vs. White Sox, hit at .308 clip (135-for-438) over his final 106 contests...compiled season-high 11-game hitting streak July 16-26, going 15-for-43 (.349) over stretch...matched career high with 5 hits Aug. 21 at Detroit, finishing contest 5-for-6 with 2B, HR and 4 RBI...belted walk-off, 2-run clout in 2nd game of Aug. 28 doubleheader vs. Kansas City, giving M's 5-3 victory...hit at .308 clip (48-for-156) with RISP.

Off-season acquisition became 20th Mariner to start in LF on Opening Day, doubling in 1st Seattle at-bat...struggled to .268 avg. (91-for-339) with 2 HRs and 32 RBI in 1st Half, but batted .330 (86-for-261) with 9 clouts and 43 RBI after All-Star Break...paced M's with 37 2Bs, while ranking 3rd in AL by batting .349 (59-for-169) with RISP...tied then-Seattle record with career-high 5-hit outburst May 27 at Kansas City, finishing 5-for-5 with 2 RBI...enjoyed banner day July 30 vs. Detroit, logging only career multi-HR game with career-best 6 RBI...belted 1st inning grand slam off Tigers' Nate Cornejo, helping Mariners to 13-3 rout...hit safely in 23 of 27 contests in July, leading club with .343 avg. Set career highs in multiple offensive categories and was named Devil Rays MVP by Tampa Bay BBWAA chapter...AL All-Star batted .298 with 39 2Bs, 9 3Bs, 14 HRs, 75 RBI and 27 stolen bases...joined TOR's Shannon Stewart as only 2 players to finish in AL's top 10 for singles (10th - 119), doubles (T8th) and triples (2nd)...also ranked 7th in junior circuit for base thefts, and 4th with 13 outfield assists...paced majors with 5 different 4-hit games...belted 4 leadoff home runs...delivered pinch-hit grand slam April 4 vs. Detroit...delivered 12-game hitting streak April 12-26, batting .426 (23-for-54)...tied AL record with 8 extra-base hits over 3 games June 9-11, going 10-for-14 with 6 2Bs, 2 HRs and 6 RBI...established career-high with 13-game hitting binge June 5-19, while hitting at .450 clip (27-for-60)...established Devil Rays record for most hits in any month with 42 safeties during June, en route to Tampa's single-season hit mark (181)...went 1-for-2 with 2B, walk, stolen base and run scored in All-Star Game, July 10 in Milwaukee.
