In 1994 graduated from Charles Henderson High School in Troy, Alabama, where he played baseball...supports Garth Brooks' Teammates for Kids Foundation and the March of Dimes programs in Alabama.
2006
For the Devil Rays made 53 apps and posted a career-high 8 saves...was his third consecutive 50-appearance season...entered the season with 2 career saves in 161 relief apps...was a non-roster invitee to spring training with the Dodgers but was released on 3/29...on 4/1 was signed to a Major League contract by TB and spent the season there...was 1 of only 5 Devil Rays players and 1 of only 2 pitchers to stay on the active roster all season (Shawn Camp, Carl Crawford, Damon Hollins, Josh Paul)...became the staff's closer in the middle of June, after Tyler Walker suffered an elbow injury...in the closer's role converted 8-10 save opps before he returned to middle relief in early August, when Seth McClung was promoted...from 6/21-8/5 converted his first 8 save opps...10 times worked at least 2.0 innings, including a season-best 3.1ip on 9/25 vs NYY that tied Ruddy Lugo for the longest by a Devil Rays reliever all season...posted a 2.84era in save situations and a 6.04era in non-save situations...in his Rays debut, on 4/5 at Bal, allowed 8 hits and 6 earned runs in 1.2 innings...his season ERA without that outing drops to 4.50...posted a 3.38 ERA in September (13.1ip).

In his first full season as a reliever ranked T3rd on the Pirates' staff in apps with a career-high 68...had a 2.68era near the end of July but in his last 25 apps of the year posted a 5.20era (27.2ip, 16er) that raised overall mark to season-ending 3.58...allowed just 2 earned runs in his first 11 apps of the season (20.2ip, 0.63era)...shut out opponents in 9 of his 10 apps in July, when he posted a 0.87era...in the 13-2 win at Cubs on 4/12 threw 3.0 scoreless innings for his second professional save...on 4/21 vs Cubs threw a season-high 4.0 innings...he followed starter Josh Fogg, who did not record an out in the 12-1 loss...allowed 1hr in his first 49g (54.1ip) and 6hr in his last 19g (23.2ip).

Went 7-0, 1.41 with 1 shutout in 8 starts and 1 relief appearance for Class AAA Nashville and made 34 apps, including 7 starts, during 3 stints with the Pirates (4/22-6/13, 6/25-6/29, 7/23-rest of the season)...twice was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week (4/14-4/20, 7/14-7/20)...did not walk a batter at Nashville (51ip)...that streak without a walk reached a league-record 69.2 innings, dating back to 2002...in his first 3 starts for the Sounds went 3-0, 1.00...wet 2-0, 0.69 in his last 2 starts of that stretch and earned his first PCL Pitcher of the Week award while teammate John Barnes earned Player of the Week honors...they were the first teammates to win the PCL's awards in the same week since Mike Lincoln and Mario Valdez did it with Salt Lake from 5/22-28, 2000...on 7/18 at Omaha retired the first 21 batters he faced and finished with a 2-hit shutout...again was named PCL Pitcher of the Week..on 7/23 was recalled for the third time and spent the rest of the season with the Pirates...on 5/5 at Hou allowed just 1 run in 4.2 innings of relief...on 7/30 vs SD threw 3.0 scoreless innings to earn his first professional save...on 8/2 vs Col threw 7.0 shutout innings in the 1-0 victory...on 8/19 at StL singled off Edwin Yan to snap an 0-for-28 skid.

Was a non-roster invitee to spring training camp with the Twins...was released on 3/28 and 2 days later was signed by the Pirates to a minor league contract...spent most of the season at Class AAA Nasvhille, where he went 9-8, 4.27 in 22 starts and 1 relief appearance...on 7/31 was promoted to Pit and spent the rest of the season there...made 11 starts for the Pirates, who went 3-8 in his apps...in his first 6 starts went 1-3 despite a 2.70era and allowed 2 earned runs or fewer in 5 of those apps...made his Pit debut on 8/1 vs Col and despite allowing just 2er in 6.0 innings suffered the 3-0 loss to Jason Jennings, who didn't allow a hit until 2 were out in the sixth inning...lost his first 3 starts before a victory on 8/17 vs Mil...in a duel with Greg Maddux on 8/28 vs Atl threw 8.0 shutout innings but received no decision...while pitching for Nashville lost his first 3 decisions and 6 of his first 8...from 6/6-7/17 went 7-0...in a 6-0 victory on 6/6 vs New Orleans recorded a season-high 12 strikeouts...in his last 4 starts for the Sounds allowed just 1 walk...in 19 of his 22 starts walked 2 or fewer batters.
2001
Began season with the Royals and went 1-6, 6.97 in 10 starts before he was optioned to Class AAA Omaha on 5/29...spent the rest of the season in the minor leagues...was the starting pitcher for KC's home opener on 4/6 vs Min...lost his first 4 decisions before beating the Indians on 5/10...threw at least 6.0 innings in 4 of his 10 starts for the Royals...for Omaha ranked T3rd on the pitching staff in victories (6) and fourth in innings pitched (105.0).
