Steven John (Turk) Wendell...is married, Barbara, has one daughter, Dakota Karoline (4/20/98) and one son, Wyatt Dylan (2/11/00)...1985 graduate of Wahconah (MA) Regional High School...during his senior year, he threw 3 no-hitters and was named to the All-Western Massachusetts team...honored by New York Chapter of the BBWAA, 2/6/00, with the Joan Payson Award for Community Service and received the Humanitarian Award from the New Jersey Sports Writers for his charitable work...received the Good Guy award from the New York Press Photographers Association, 2/5/00...flew an F-16 Fighter Jet with the Thunderbirds for 1 hour, 15 minutes from Las Vegas' Nellis Air Force Base; hit 9.4 G-Forces, the most hit by anyone other than a pilot...attended Quinnipiac College in Hamden, CT for three years before being drafted...received his Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts in June 1999...was all-conference in 1987 and second team All-New England in 1988.
2003
Opened the year on the 15-day disabled list while recovering from right elbow tendon surgery done in May of 2002...the righty made 5 rehab appearances with Single-A Clearwater before being activated by the Phillies April 14...in his first appearance, April 16 vs Florida, he pitched 2.0 innings of one-hit, scoreless ball...it was his first major league outing since Sept. 18, 2001 vs. Atlanta...would go on to work 12 consecutive scoreless outings to begin the season (14.0 ip)...the 14.0-inning scoreless streak was a career high and the longest by a Phillies reliever to start a season since Ken Ryan went 15.2 scoreless frames to start 1996...earned his lone save on Sept. 6 vs. the Mets, his first since May 18, 2001 vs. Los Angeles...allowed only 2 earned runs in his 27.0 innings of work through June (0.67).
2002
Suffered from recurring tendinitis in his right elbow during spring training and spent entire season on the disabled list...had surgery to excise the irritated area of the tendon on his right arm, May 20, by Dr. David Altcheck at the Hospital for Specialized Surgery in New York.
