Despite battling injuries-namely right patella tendinitis-for most of the season, once again posted solid offensive
numbers (.294 with 24 doubles, 14 home runs and 60 RBI)...agreed to terms on a 4-year contract extension, May
14...the deal, which runs through the '08 campaign, was announced after Montreal's 4-3 win at Bank One
Ballpark...finished season ranked among Expos all-time leaders in games (7th with 973), at-bats (7th with 3485),
runs (6th with 524), hits (7th with 1061), singles (7th with 694), doubles (5th with 294), home runs (tied for 7th with
101), RBI (7th with 471), total bases (6th with 1639), walks (9th with 325), sacrifice flies (tied for 10th with 26) and

Vidro once again produced offensively and defensively in his seventh season with the Expos despite battling
through a sore right shoulder during the first half and a nagging right knee injury after the All-Star break...still, played in
144 games and hit .310 with 15 home runs and 65 RBI...his season was rewarded by winning his first Silver Slugger Award
as picked for Louisville Slugger by Major League managers and coaches...earned a third All-Star invite...led National League
second basemen with a .397 on-base percentage...posted a career-high on-base percentage of .397, helped in large part
by a career-high 69 walks...spent much of the season ranked among the National League's top 10 in that category...finshed

Was a back-to-back winner of the team's Molson Player of the Month Award in May and June... Finished in the Top 10 of several NL offensive categories... Set a career-long hitting streak, while collecting four hitting streaks of at least nine games (21, 13, nine twice)... Vidro put together another solid campaign in 2001 despite missing 36 games due to various injuries... Led all NL second basemen with a .319 batting average, finishing ahead of SF's Jeff Kent (.306) and St. Louis' Fernando Vina... His BA was good for third among all ML second basemen, trailing only Cleveland's Roberto Alomar (.336) and Seattle's Bret Boone (.333)...Batted over .300 in four different months and took the NL by storm in July, leading the league with a .443 BA while being named the Expos' Player of the Month... Was hit in the head by a Roy Oswalt pitch on August 4 at Houston, suffering a concussion that would sideline him for 11 of the next 13 games... Would bat only .242 in 16 games in August, snapping a 1-for-17 drought on September 9 which dropped his average to .313... His bat and leadership were missed as the Expos went 12-24 in games which Vidro missed due to injury... His 51 multi-hit games were second only to Vladimir Guerrero's 56... Was the top hitter in the majors during late innings of close games, batting .417 under pressure, followed by Twins' Cristian Guzman at .467 and Jacques Jones at .423.

Vidro experienced a magical season in 2000 in what was just his second full campaign at the Major League level... Established himself as one of the best players in the National League and one of the premiere second basemen in the majors – both offensively and defensively... Batted an extraordinary .330 and finished the campaign with 200 hits, 101 runs, 51 doubles, 24 homers and 97 RBI – all team records for a second baseman...Became the second second baseman in the last 60 years to post at least 200 hits, 50 doubles and a .300 average, the other being Craig Biggio in 1998... Is just the fourth player in franchise history to reach the 200-hit plateau in a season, falling just four shy of the record while his doubles total is second-best in team history, falling three shy of the mark... TOP 10B : 2nd in the NL in multi-hit games (60) & hits (200) behind batting champ Todd Helton (63/ 216); 3rd in doubles (51), behind Helton (59) and Jeff Cirillo (53); 5th in home BA (.369) and 6th for BA against lefties (.373); 7th in BA (.331)... - HIT MEN: Finished with 200 hits, three more than Guerrero... The 2000 tandem collected 397 hits, setting the franchise record for most hits between two hitters, surpassing the tandem of Al Oliver (204 – a club record) and Andre Dawson (183) in 1982.
1999
Vidro was without a doubt the Expos most pleasant surprise of the season after winning the second base job by mid-May... The 25-year-old switch-hitter completed his first full season in the Majors by making significant strides with both his defensive and offensive game... So much so that he was among the NL's Top 10 in several offensive categories by mid-June and finished second in the league with 45 doubles, tied with Arizona's Luis Gonzalez... His doubles total was the third-highest in franchise history, tied with Mike Lansing in 1997... Mark Grudzielanek holds the club record with 54 doubles in 1997 followed by Warren Cromartie with 46 in 1979. Vidro finished second on the team with 38 multi-hit games... His 12 homers and 59 RBI ranked him 7th among his NL second base counterparts... Would have finished among the league's top hitters if not for an 0-for-26 slump to end the season, dropping his average from .321 to .304... Did not double in his last 12 games... Made 115 starts at second base, seven at first (first of his career on April 7 at Pittsburgh).
- IN ORDER: Batted in all slots in the order except eighth, used mostly in the three-hole (46 times)... Finished 7th in the NL with a .982 fielding percentage in 121 games, committing nine errors in 508 total chances.
- FIVE RBI GAME: Went 2-for-5 with a double, HR and a career-high five RBI on April 14 vs Milwaukee... Hit a three-run homer batting left-handed off Al Reyes in the 4th inning before hitting a two-run double as a right-handed hitter in the 6th.
- IN THE PINCH: Connected for first career pinch-hit homer on May 2 off the Cards Juan Acevido in the 9th to tie the game 6-6... Was 5-for-10 with a homer and 5 RBI in that role by May 11.
- STREAK: Put together a career-high 10-game hitting streak from May 25-June 6, going 15-for-35 (.429) with two doubles, two homers, four RBI and 10 runs scored.
- AVERAGE: Was 9th in the NL with a .327 batting average by June 24 after hitting safely in seven straight games (11-for-28, .393)... Climbed back to .327 as late as August 25 after batting at a .400 clip in his last 60 at-bats (24 hits).
- DOUBLES: Hit his 23rd double on June 26 vs Florida to move into 2nd place in that category... Would not relinquish that ranking for the remainder of the season.
- SLAMMED: Connected for first career grand slam off San Diego's Carlos Almanzar in the 6th inning on August 6 at Olympic Stadium... Was first Expos grand slam since August 27, 1998 (Chris Widger off Darren Dreifort at L.A. as a pinch hitter).
- FOUR-HITTER: Collected two four-hit games, three total in his career... The first four-hitter came in the second game of a doubleheader on August 13 at Colorado, going 4-for-5... In fact, he went 6-for-11 with two doubles and four RBI in the doubleheader... Second four-hit effort came on August 24 vs St. Louis, going 4-for-5 while driving in three runs for third time in career and second time in '99.
- COORS FIELD: Collected 10 hits, three doubles, one homer and seven RBI in 19 at-bats in the five-game series at Coors Field from August 13-15.
- LAST HR: Hit a solo homer in the 8th inning off John Johnstone on August 16 at San Francisco... Was 12th of the season and 11th as a left-handed hitter... His 12 homers drove in 23 runs.
- BACK-TO-BACK: Hit three back-to-back homers... The first was with Rondell White on April 18 at Shea Stadium off Allen Watson, the second was also with Rondell on May 12 at Arizona off Todd Stottlemyre and his third was with Orlando Merced on May 25 at Philadelphia off Chad Ogea.
- ON BASE: Reached base five times on September 1 at Arizona... Went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two walks (one intentional) and three runs scored as the Expos beat Omar Daal 8-1... Also reached the 40-doubles plateau that night (#40 & #41).
- SPECTACULAR: Showed the entire package in a game on September 14 at Dodger Stadium by going 2-for-4 with an RBI while hitting his 44th double... Made two spectacular plays at second base to help preserve Javier Vazquez's 3-0 shutout over Kevin Brown.
- 45th DOUBLE: Hit 45th double on September 18 at Atlanta off Greg Maddux, part of a 3-for-4 game and a 4-3 win.
- MONTH TO MONTH: Hit six doubles in April, seven in May, 11 in June, five in July, 10 in August and six in September.
- SLUMPED: Finished the season on an 0-for-26 note, dropping his BA from .321 to .304... Sat out last two games of the season at Philadelphia.
1998
Vidro started the 1998 season with the Expos at second base on Opening Night... Had a .171 batting average in 29 games before he was optioned to AAA Ottawa on May 10 to make room for Robert Perez who was acquired in a trade... Batted .400 (18-for-45) with the Lynx and returned to the Expos on May 23... Was optioned to Ottawa on July 14, replaced by Orlando Cabrera at second base and eventually Wilton Guerrero... Recalled on September 4 for the remainder of the calendar... Participated in 83 games, starting 46 at second base and three at third... As a pinch-hitter, he recorded three hits, two walks and two RBI in 23 appearances... Played for Ponce in the Puerto Rican Winter League where he was a unanimous selection as the league's MVP... Won the batting title with a .417 average, the highest in the league since Edgar Martinez hit .424 in 1990... Flirted with the Triple Crown, finishing tied for 4th in home runs (10) and sixth in RBI (30).
- TARGET: Hit by a pitch twice in a game on May 24 at Philadelphia to tie a franchise record.
- 3 HITTER: Tied a season high with three hits in a game on June 6 at Tampa Bay and June 19 vs the Braves... Recorded four hits on August 7, 1997 vs the Dodgers for career high.
- BRING ON THE YANKS: Had two consecutive 2-for-4 performances vs the Yankees on June 9-10, including two doubles, a sacrifice fly and two RBI... Batted .444 (4-for-9) in the three game series.
- JUNE: Batted .325 in 25 games including 17 starts in June, going 26-for-80 with six doubles and 10 runs batted in.
- HERO: Lined a double off the center-field wall as a pinch-hitter with two outs in the bottom of the 9th in the Expos final home game on September 16 vs the Marlins... Expos went on to win 3-2.
1997
Vidro spent two different stints with the Expos in 1997... Was first with Montreal from June 6-July 1, going 3-for-23 (.130) and then from July 21 to the end of the season... Had contract originally purchased June 6 to take the place of Vladimir Guerrero, who was DL'd with a pulled right hamstring... Appeared in 67 games, 36 as a starter at third base... Became the best pinch-hitter on the Club, going 9-for-20, .450 with four doubles and four RBI in that role... Has what manager Felipe Alou calls a "base-hit swing," especially from the left side of the plate... During second stay with the Expos from July 21 to the end of the season, he went 39-for-146 (.267) in 57 games with 10 doubles, a triple, two HR, 16 RBI... At season's end, played for Ponce in the Puerto Rican Winter League.
- FIRST HIT: Collected a pinch-hit double for his first Major League hit on June 8 vs Steve Trachsel and the Cubs in his ML debut... Later came around to score his first run.
- SECOND: Doubled off Kevin Brown on June 27 at Florida... His first two hits in the Majors were doubles.
- FOUR-HITTER: Went 4-for-5 August 7 vs Los Angeles for first career four-hit game... Three singles and a double, with three of the hits coming off Hideo Nomo.
- IN THE PINCH: Was 9-for-20, .450, with 4 RBI off the bench including four doubles, five singles, five runs... In last 16 pinch-hit appearances, went 8-for-16 with three doubles and four RBI.
- DESIGNATED HITTER: Went 0-for-7, walk, two strikeouts as the Expos first ever designated hitter June 16th and 17th at Baltimore... Was the youngest designated hitter (22-years-old) used that season.
- INTERLEAGUE: Went 3-for-9, 3 walks at Yankee Stadium and 1-for-5, 2B, RBI vs Boston, playing third base in the two series.
- CLEAN-UP: Went 1-for-3 batting clean-up on July 26 at Houston.
- FIRST START came at third base on June 18 at Baltimore, going 0-for-4 while batting 6th in the line-up.
- HOMERS: Hit first career home run (3-run) off Mel Rojas on September 11 at Shea Stadium... Hit second homer, a solo shot off John Smoltz, on September 19 at Atlanta to break up a shut-out in a 2-1 Braves win.
- TRIPLE: Hit his first career triple vs Garrett Stephenson of the Phillies on September 7.
In his first experience at the AAA level, Vidro played in 47 games at third base and 21 at second base with the Lynx in 1997... Batted .323 with 90 hits in only 73 games overall... Hit .293 in April and .348 in May, his only two complete months in the Minors... Started out with a bang going 3-for-3 with a double and a home run on April 3 at Toledo... Had a 12-game hitting streak from May 23 through June 4, going 24-for-54, .444 with two doubles, five home runs and 16 RBI... Named International League's Player of the Week for the period of May 26-June 1, hitting at a .500 clip with 13 hits in 26 at-bats... His hitting explosion placed him among the league leaders with a .328 average (8th), 38 RBI (5th) and 65 hits (3rd)... Virtually led the team in every offensive category when the Expos called him up for the first time... Played for Ponce in the Puerto Rican Winter League at season's end and batted .242 with nine RBI in 36 games.
1996
In his only full season at AA level, with Harrisburg in 1996, paced the Senators with a career-high 82 RBI and added 18 home runs and 117 hits, second and third on the Club respectively... Continued to excel in the Eastern League playoffs, batting .467 with 14 hits to lead the Harrisburg club to the league championship.
1995
Vidro started the 1995 season at Class A West Palm Beach and with a .325 average in the first 44 games, was promptly promoted to AA Harrisburg... Surpassed the 100-hit plateau for the second consecutive season.
1994
In 1994, named as the Florida State League Player of the Week ending June 19... Tied for 3rd in the Expos organization in strikeout percentage (11%)... Ranked 4th in doubles (30), plate appearances (527), tied for 5th in games played (125) and stolen base percentage(80%)... Led the Class A West Palm Beach club in games and walks (51), 2nd in at-bats (465), runs (57), hits (124) and total bases (170).
1993
In 1993, suffered through an injury-plagued season, but showed flashes of the offensive abilities that were present in his first season... Went on Class A Burlington disabled list on June 1 with a left wrist sprain... Came off the DL on June 15th... Wrist flaired back up and was put back on the disabled list on July 26th, where he ended the season.
1992
Vidro was named in 1992 to the Gulf Coast Postseason All-Star team... Named Topps' Co-Player of the Month for August and Expos Organization Player of the Month... Finished 3rd among short-season switch-hitters in average (.330) and tied for third in the league in hits (66) and home runs (4)... Placed 5th in batting, tied for 6th in slugging (.440)... Batted .600 (9-for-15) over four games from July 11th.
