Muncy day to day with right ankle pain
In his second at-bat against Braves starter Ian Anderson, Muncy hit a grounder to second base and hustled out of the batter’s box but was unable to beat out a double play. Muncy was then replaced by Matt Beaty at first base for the bottom half of the fourth before Albert Pujols pinch-hit in the top of the fifth and took over at first base.
"When he grounded into the double play and ran to the bag, coming back to the dugout, when he was on the infield, he just felt something not right with the ankle,” manager Dave Roberts said. “At that point in time, he tried to go back out there and take the field, and it just didn't respond well. So, [he is] day to day.
"I think that we'd be more concerned if it was hitting the bag or something like that, but he didn't feel it then. I don't recall and he doesn't recall really any incidents, so we'll see how he feels tomorrow.”
Muncy had reached base safely in 22 consecutive games leading up to Friday with a slash line of .338/.454/.688 with eight home runs, 16 RBIs and 21 runs scored in that span.
