Jansen's debut delayed by tight hamstring
Dodgers manager Roberts downplays severity of closer's setback
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Just when it looked like Kenley Jansen's spring vacation would be interrupted by pitching in an actual Cactus League game, he was scratched from a scheduled one-inning outing against the Royals on Friday with a tight hamstring.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts downplayed the concern over the no-show by arguably the best closer in the game.

"It's upper [right] hamstring," said Roberts. "When he was getting ready today, his pregame stuff, getting his legs loose and running, it tightened up. At that point in time, had the trainers look at him, and it just made sense to not throw him today."

Roberts said no tests were taken and the new plan is to have Jansen pitch in a "B" game on Monday and then make his long-delayed Cactus League debut on Thursday vs. the Royals at Camelback Ranch, two weeks before Opening Day.
"He said it just tightened up. No strain," Roberts said. "He'll get treatment tomorrow."
Because of an onerous workload last season, and the relatively short time it takes a reliever to be game-ready, Jansen has been on a lighter schedule than position players and starting pitchers, and even most relievers.
"He's earned that," Roberts said.
Last spring, Jansen pitched in seven Cactus League games and 10 in 2016.
Tony Cingrani did make his Cactus League debut on Friday with a scoreless inning in the 6-4 Dodgers win. He also has been on a delayed schedule, overcoming early-camp shoulder stiffness.
"You don't really need that many outings as a reliever," said Cingrani. "I'm pretty much going to do this for now on. I don't need many outings, maybe six to eight, nothing crazy. I'll definitely do a back-to-back, but a controlled back-to-back, like on a back field."
