Jansen delivers a perfect frame vs. Braves
Kenley Jansen, who lost the job of Dodgers closer last week, pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the Braves at Globe Life Field on Wednesday, entering with a 14-run lead in a game Los Angeles would go on to win, 15-3.
After taking over for starter Julio Urías, Jansen retired Marcell Ozuna on a long fly to center field, Tyler Flowers on a popup and Ozzie Albies on a liner to first baseman Max Muncy.
“I was really pleased with the way he threw the baseball,” said manager Dave Roberts. “Every inning is important. Every out is important. Also, just to get an opportunity to pitch, as he’s working through delivery stuff, to see how it plays to Major League hitters, that’s been beneficial to everyone. So I was just very happy with the outing.”
Jansen is the Dodgers’ franchise leader in saves, with 312, plus 17 postseason saves in 45 October appearances. But he lost his role after experiencing a drop in velocity in late September and allowed two runs on three hits in Game 2 of the NL Division Series against the Padres, although the Dodgers hung on to win, 6-5.
