PHOENIX -- Dodgers left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu didn't sustain the average left groin strain. This one appears much more severe. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who acknowledged he was no doctor, said Ryu tore the muscle off the bone.
The club placed Ryu on the 10-day disabled list, but he'll be out much longer.
"When you're looking at that, it's a pretty dramatic injury," Roberts said before Thursday's series finale against the D-backs. "So I think the first part of the conversation is it's going to be the second half, after the All-Star break [when he returns]. When that is, we don't know. It's unfortunate for Hyun-Jin, who was having such a great season."
Ryu, who exited Wednesday's game in the second inning, has gone 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA over 29 2/3 innings this season. His injury becomes the latest blow for a Dodgers team that has sustained many to this point in the young season.
Roberts said it's too early to map out Ryu's treatment options. The club wants to give Ryu time to recover from the trauma caused by an injury like that. But the Dodgers will need to further tinker and piece together a plan moving forward.
On Thursday, reinforcements arrived. Los Angeles recalled right-hander Yimi Garcia, who pitched one-third of an inning in the Dodgers' 5-2 win over the D-backs at Chase Field, and infielder/outfielder Tim Locastro, who started in center field, from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The club optioned infielder/outfielder Breyvic Valera to OKC, but Roberts said Valera will be the club's 26th player for its upcoming series in Mexico against the Padres.
Roberts confirmed postgame Thursday that Walker Buehler -- the club's No. 1 prospect per MLB Pipeline -- would be Friday's starter, and Rich Hill will return from a mid-April left middle finger injury to make a start Sunday.
Possible upcoming rehab assignment for Forsythe
Roberts said he could see John Forsythe, who has been out because of inflammation in his right shoulder, going on a rehab assignment Saturday or Sunday. Where Forsythe will go isn't yet known, but Roberts said both Oklahoma City and Rancho Cucamonga are possibilities.

Update on Urias
Roberts said Julio Urias, who is recovering from left shoulder surgery, was slated to play catch up to 90 feet on Thursday. The manager said Urias is in good spirits. "Julio, we're counting on him this year," Roberts said. "When that is, I don't know. But I know he's counting on impacting us this year."
