May hit by liner on left foot, will get CT scan
Dodgers starting pitcher Dustin May was removed from Thursday night’s 5-2 loss to the D-backs at Chase Field before the bottom of the second inning with a left foot injury. Manager Dave Roberts said that X-rays on May's foot were "inconclusive" and that the right-hander will undergo a CT scan on Friday's off-day.
"We'll know more [Friday] with Dustin," Roberts said.
May was struck on his left foot when Josh Rojas lined the second pitch of the first inning off the inside of the rookie's foot for an infield single. After a few warm-up throws, May remained in the game, throwing several 99-mph fastballs and completing a 16-pitch scoreless inning.
But May came off the mound at the end of the first favoring his left foot. He went out to the mound to warm up for the second, but Roberts brought a trainer out and May’s start was called, with rookie lefty Victor González brought in to replace May.
Entering the night 1-1 with a 2.88 ERA, May was making his eighth start of the season, having inherited a rotation spot with the season absence of David Price (who decided not to play) and early season injuries to Clayton Kershaw and Alex Wood.
May's early departure came on the same day the Dodgers placed starter Walker Buehler on the injured list for a second time due to a right index finger blister.
Tony Gonsolin now figures to move back into the rotation to replace one of them.
