This pitcher's reggaeton jam is tearing up the Angels' clubhouse
So ... it turns out veteran pitcher Yunesky Maya can sing. And not just sing in the shower, or sing in front of friends, but really, really sing. He even professionally recorded his own song.
It's called "Los Duenos De La Noche," which translates to "The Owners Of The Night." It's a reggaeton track, composed with Maya's cousin, Lachy Fortuna, and a Cuban singer who goes by the stage name "El Mola."
Maya recently sang it on a Dominican TV show with some of his teammates from the Licey Tigers of the Dominican Winter League in attendance. (Skip to 0:35 for the beginning of the song.)
Of course, they played it in the Angels' clubhouse.
"Ever since I was a kid I liked music," Maya said, "I feel like I have an ear for music."
Maya, signed to a Minor League contract in the offseason, specifically likes rapping reggaeton. Word spread, so Angels manager Mike Scioscia had him freestyle a little in one of the morning meetings, and those in attendance were very impressed.
Maybe he can do this whole music thing full time one day.
"You never know where your future lies," said Maya. "I have a lot of friends in that industry that I follow, and they motivate me to sing."
