Reflexes pay off: Yoenis Cespedes salvaged a running catch with his bare hand

Outfielders have to deal with a lot when tasked with making a tough catch on a shallow fly ball. From blinding sun rays to flashy jewelry in the stands to simple miscommunications with teammates, it's sometimes hard to make the play cleanly.
Although, as proven by Yoenis Céspedes in the Mets' 3-2 loss to the Cardinals in Game 1 of their doubleheader on Tuesday, you don't actually need to make a play cleanly at all -- you can simply use your spare hand to secure the ball from crashing down to the ground and rendering all your effort moot: 

It must be pointed out, though, that in Cespedes' particular case, he'd always have a more-than-decent shot to throw the runner out somewhere anyway:
