After losing foul ball to an A's fan, Yankees fan winds up with an even better prize
If you're at a ballgame and suddenly notice a foul ball headed in your direction, what do you do? Gather yourself and stand with hand, glove or popcorn bucket at the ready?
You do all you can to hopefully come down with the baseball, but sometimes things are out of your control. That's what happened to one Yankees fan during Saturday's game with the A's. In the third inning, a Ronald Torreyes foul pop sailed toward the Plaza Level at the Coliseum, seemingly destined for this New York supporter in a throwback Thurman Munson jersey.
However, as seen above, right at the point of impact an A's fan with a glove leapt out and secured the baseball, much to the shock and dismay of the NY fan and his crew.
A few innings later, however, this gentleman received his own ball courtesy of the A's production team, autographed by play-by-play duo Glen Kuiper and Ray Fosse.
As MLB.com Real-Time Correspondent Christine Kroeckel relayed after meeting up with the Yankees fan, his name is Aurelio Gonzalez of Gilroy, Calif., at the game with his family and his son's 13U "Boys of Summer" team.
He plans on returning to the Coliseum for Sunday's series finale, though it remains to be seen if he'll find himself caught up in a moment like this again.
