What's a number worth to you?
When A.J. Burnett was traded to the Pirates, there was only one problem: Daniel McCutchen was wearing his No. 34.
Traditionally, veterans give players watches or some sort of expensive gift when another player gives up their number. In this instance, Burnett will be starting a college fund for McCutchen's unborn daughter, who is due in May.
"When a veteran comes in and takes a number, some of the guys usually get something," McCutchen told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I know he has kids. He asked me what I wanted, I brought that up. Eighteen years from now, we’ll see what the market is."
McCutchen will be wearing No. 25 this year.
