Dellin Betances' intentional ball was so far outside, Joe Girardi called off the intentional walk

In many ways, pitchers are finely tuned machines. Just as you wouldn't use the Large Hadron Collider to make scrambled eggs, Dellin Betances isn't made to intentionally walk batters. Joe Girardi had to learn that the hard way.
Asked to put one wide with the Giants' Brandon Crawford at the plate in the top of the 11th inning and a runner on third Saturday, Betances' toss was less an intentional ball and more a rocket straining to reach orbit.

Realizing that his finely tuned machine -- who entered the game with 84 strikeouts and 12 walks in 48 innings (!) -- wasn't made for putting runners on base (just look at the reaction from the man on third who is so shocked by what's happening that he barely moves off the bag), Girardi allowed his Robocop-esque pitcher go back to doing his thing. Which ended with Crawford grounding out.
Unfortunately for the Yankees, they would go on to lose the game, 2-1, after Mac Williamson's single in the top of the 12th.
