Astros reliever Tony Sipp plays the outfield ... again
The Astros' Tony Sipp plays the outfield ... again
Get ready fantasy owners because Tony Sipp is on his way towards gaining multi-position eligibility. Only five days after the reliever made his Major League appearance in right field, Bo Porter did it again on Sunday against the Rays.
After coming in to face Kevin Kiermaier who reached on a fielder's choice, Sipp was sent out to left field with Evan Longoria at the plate. Fortunately for Sipp and the Astros, but unfortunately for Team Chaos viewers at home, Longoria would strike out, depriving us all of the glory of watching Sipp field a ball out in left.
As for the strangest occurance of pitchers playing the outfield? That one has to belong to the Mets on July 22, 1986. When their game against the Reds went into extra innings, pitchers Jesse Orosco and Roger McDowell combined for four shutout innings while rotating between right field, left field and the pitching mound in the Mets' 14 inning victory.
