A hard-hitting Q&A with Southern League celebrity Dansby Swanson and his canine friend
It's no secret that No. 6 overall prospectDansby Swanson has a bright big league future ahead of him. Swanson has long been in the spotlight, from being the star shortstop at D-1 powerhouse Vanderbilt University to being drafted No. 1 overall by the D-backs in 2015.
But this offseason introduced a new level of Dansby-mania. The young infielder and Georgia native was traded to Atlanta, the team he grew up watching. In addition to playing for his hometown organization, he's atop the prospect rankings for a Braves team in the midst of rebuilding, and the excitement for Swanson has never been higher.
The 22-year-old is enjoying a fantastic season with the Double-A Mississippi Braves in the Southern League, a league that exists almost exclusively in Braves country. In turn, the media circus surrounding Swanson has been substantial all year long, with everyone eager to get a piece of Atlanta's next big star. While Swanson is used to answering questions about his on-field performance, we wanted to get a sense for some of his off-the-field quirks. We sat down with him before Sunday's game in Jackson and asked some hard-hitting questions. We received some equally hard-hitting answers, as well as an outstanding cameo from his girlfriend's dog.
