The 12 best MLB player costumes from Halloween 2013

Players from across MLB served up some mighty impressive All Hallows' Eve getups last year -- so how does this year compare? Let's count down the 12 best:

12. Will Middlebrooks ("Green Monster")

I can't give the Red Sox third baseman enough credit for not only having a costume ready to go the day after winning the World Series, but for making it Red Sox-related to boot.

11. Chris Johnson (mummy)

Fact: Any tweet that includes "#mummyswag" is a fantastic tweet. Well done to the Braves infielder.

10. Gaby Sanchez (chicken)

The Pirates first baseman should consider wearing this in the batter's box -- it'd probably get the pitcher to throw a challenge fastball every time.

9. Michael Roth (Blue Power Ranger)

The Angels farmhand wasn't going to let pitching for the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League get between him and dressing up as the owner of the Triceratops Power Coin.

8. Taijuan Walker (Fresh Prince of Bel-Air)

The Mariners already have King Felix, and their fans hope Walker can become the prince of a town called Seattle.

7. A.J. Burnett (Batman)

The Pirates starter: the hero his son's classroom deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

6. Reid Brignac and family (the Rubbles)

Always reliable for a fantastic group costume -- last year the Rockies infielder and his family went as Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas, while their child was a pumpkin.

5. Ben Zobrist and family (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

The Rays All Star's family have the right number of members, and more importantly, the Cowabunga-ing spirit to pull this off.

4. Sonny Gray and girlfriend (Woody and Jessie)

There's a snake in the Athletics starter's boot. Only question is, where's Bullseye?

3. Didi Gregorius (Slender Man)

2. Brad Ziegler and family (Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Abby Cadabby)

This tableau, which I'm told features the D-backs reliever somewhere, is truly one of my favorite photos from this year in baseball.

1. Heath Hembree (sheet ghost)

It takes a surfeit of moxie to go with the ol' classic sheet ghost. The Giants reliever went there, and my hat is off to him.
