15 years before Will Ferrell played all nine positions, Shane Halter pulled it off in one game

Shane Halter was a journeyman utility infielder who appeared in 690 games for four teams over parts of eight seasons in MLB. But on Oct. 1, 2000, he landed himself in the history books when he played all nine positions in one game for the Tigers.

Almost 15 years before Will Ferrell used a fleet of buses and a helicopter to play all nine positions and DH for 10 MLB teams over the course of one day, Halter pulled off the feat in an afternoon, going 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs.

It was the last game of the season, and the Tigers were hosting the Twins at Comerica Park. Halter got the start at first base, then moved to third, right field, center field, left field, shortstop and catcher. Twins catcher Matt LeCroy led off the top of the eighth inning and faced who else but Halter. LeCroy drew a walk on five pitches, and so ended Halter's very brief pitching career.

Halter moved to second base where he'd finish the game.

After Dusty Allen homered to lead off the bottom of the ninth, Halter took his fifth turn at the plate and doubled to left field. He later came around to score when Hal Morris delivered a pinch-hit, walk-off single.
