Max Scherzer was sensational for the Nationals against the Cubs in Game 3 of the National League Division Series presented by T-Mobile. The Cubs won, 2-1, but Scherzer held the defending World Series champions hitless for the first 6 1/3 innings, striking out seven along the way. Scherzer departed in the seventh with a 1-0 lead after allowing a double by Ben Zobrist to break up the no-hit bid. One inning earlier, however, Jon Jay made a strong bid for the Cubs' first hit. He smoked Scherzer's first pitch of the sixth to deep center field. Michael A. Taylor went way back, almost to the ivy ...
... and reeled in the drive for the first out. Instead of having a runner in scoring position to start the inning, the Cubs instead saw Kris Bryant walk with one out and Anthony Rizzo immediately bounce into a double play to end the frame. The Nationals' bullpen was a lonely sight at that time since Scherzer was rolling, but Sean Doolittle was out there. It didn't matter that no one else was around him on camera -- he was going to celebrate anyway.
No shame in that, Sean. Billy Idol would approve!
