That, admittedly, doesn't sound that special. But, until Wednesday, Todd Zeile had sat atop a less heralded -- but no less important -- leaderboard since 2001: Home runs by a player whose last name starts with the letter Z.
After the game, MLB.com's Brian Heyman informed Zimmerman of his accomplishment. "It's an honor," Zimmerman said. "I did not know that. Yeah, pretty cool. I never thought I'd hit this many home runs in the big leagues anyway, so I guess I'll take any record."
Zimmerman is now the most prolific Z-named slugger in history.
