With two HRs, Ryan Zimmerman has passed Todd Zeile on the all-time list to become the Z homer king

In the first inning of Wednesday night's game against the Mets, Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman hit a three-run home run. It was the 253rd of his career and moved him into a tie for 219th on the all-time home run list with Larry Doby, Joe Gordon, Andre Thornton and Todd Zeile.

He then hit another one in the ninth inning -- tying him for 218th place with Adam Jones.

That, admittedly, doesn't sound that special. But, until Wednesday, Todd Zeile had sat atop a less heralded -- but no less important -- leaderboard since 2001: Home runs by a player whose last name starts with the letter Z.
After the game, MLB.com's Brian Heyman informed Zimmerman of his accomplishment. "It's an honor," Zimmerman said. "I did not know that. Yeah, pretty cool. I never thought I'd hit this many home runs in the big leagues anyway, so I guess I'll take any record."
Zimmerman is now the most prolific Z-named slugger in history.
