Reds prospect Cody Reed wears glasses on the mound because his mom said so
Here are some things you should know about Reds pitcher Cody Reed: He is the team's No. 3-ranked prospect and the No. 7-ranked left-handed pitching prospect in all of MLB. With seven strikeouts in eight innings and a 0.63 WHIP in Spring Training so far, he's also put himself "on the map for our ballclub," in the words of Reds manager Bryan Price. And he wears glasses that are among the coolest in baseball …
Because his mom told him to.
Reed explained his glasses origin story to Fox Sports Ohio: "I just wore them just because I didn't want to make mom mad … and I think I had a really good game that game, and they just stuck with me."
Hey, moms gonna mom, and you can't argue. His mother, Kris Reed-Jones, told the Cincinnati Enquirer, "If I was going to take him to the doctor and go through all that trouble, he's by-golly going to wear them."
That may have been in high school, but Reed's still wearing his specs today -- the power of moms knows no bounds.
