The Rochester Red Wings will celebrate the garbage plate's birthday by becoming 'The Plates'
If you care more about flavor than presentation or an appetizing name, then the garbage plate is for you. The dish -- a Rochester, N.Y. specialty -- can be made a few ways, but it traditionally consists of a bed of macaroni salad and home fries topped with two hot dogs or burger patties. It is then covered in a meaty hot sauce with onions and mustard.
The Rochester Red Wings, the Triple-A affiliate of the Twins, will now honor the delicacy on its 100th birthday. When it takes the field on Aug. 10, the team will dress in jerseys that resemble the layered plate of food, while the cap will feature the dish on (what else?) a home plate:

Originally created by Nick Tahou's in 1918, the restaurant will even be on hand for the night to serve up the original dish. Of course, if you want to anger the purists, each vendor will also have their own take on the food, including one made with ice cream. Click here to check them all out.
