Before their series in Seattle, the Rays hilariously recalled Mallex Smith's 77-minute Mariners tenure
January 11, 2017, was a busy day for Mallex Smith. He woke up a member of the Braves, but found himself traded to the Mariners in a swap of Minor Leaguers.
But before he could get acclimated to his new organization -- a little over an hour later, in fact -- he was shipped off to the Rays with shortstop Carlos Vargas and lefty Ryan Yarbrough in exchange for Drew Smyly.
He was with the Mariners for just 77 minutes.
On Friday, the Rays open a three-game weekend series at Safeco Field against the Mariners, technically Smith's former team. To mark the occasion, the first game between the two clubs this season, the Rays put together this piece of video magic:
Tonight... he returns. pic.twitter.com/54iQvKkYIs

And the Mariners followed in kind:
The pregame ceremony begins at 7:02.

It will conclude at 7:02:08. https://t.co/e3FZ8VfnCk
This, folks, is how you do social media.
The only thing that would've made that video better would have been this song playing over a reel of Smith's (obviously many) memorable moments as a Mariner.
