The Tigers will honor Mike Ilitch with 'Mr. I' cut into the outfield grass for the home opener
No one can deny that Mike Ilitch loved the team and wanted to bring a championship to Detroit. A Minor Leaguer in the Tigers' system in the 1950s, Ilitch began heavily investing in the club following their 119-loss season in 2003 to try to win a championship. Though the Tigers didn't win the World Series, you couldn't fault his devotion as the team won four AL Central titles and two AL pennants in the last decade.
After passing away in the offseason at the age of 87, the Tigers have played with Mr. I patches on their sleeves.

When they return home to face the Red Sox for Friday's home opener, they will further honor the beloved owner with Mr. I cut into the outfield grass:

It's a fitting tribute for an owner so dedicated to both his team and city.
