Photo of the Day: Reds pitchers rowing boat through Crosley Field in 1937
On this day in 1937, Cincinnati experienced the worst flood in its history.
Crosley Field, the home of the Reds at the time, was one of the many structures affected by the rising Ohio River. The home plate area was covered by 21 feet of water and the lower grandstand was also totally submerged, causing damage to the playing surface and other areas of the ballpark.
Above is a picture of Redlegs pitchers Lee Grissom and Gene Schott rowing a boat through center field. Some believe Grissom was trying to pick up his paycheck from the front office, but who really knows?
