Photo of the Day: Pee Wee Reese and Stan Rojek play Superman at Spring Training
Pee Wee Reese grew up in Kentucky, and Stan Rojek hailed from Western New York State, which is to say that neither was born on Krypton and rocketed to Earth by their scientist fathers. That didn't stop the duo from channeling their inner Kal-Els at Dodgers Spring Training back in 1939.
It would be another year and change before Reese first cracked the Dodgers' MLB roster in 1940. Rojek joined him and the Dodgers for one lone appearance in 1942, but became more of a presence in the dugout over the following two seasons.
For what it's worth, all that practice going head-first must have done Reese some good: He stole 232 bases over the course of his 16-year career, including an MLB-best 30 in 1952.
