Oscar winner and Oakland native Mahershala Ali hooked up the A's with a 'Moonlight' screening

In addition to being a newly minted Academy Award winner, "Moonlight" star Mahershala Ali is an Oakland native and big-time A's fan. Really, he threw out a first pitch last season and everything:

Of course, being a movie star comes with perks not afforded to most fans. Exhibit A: Before he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor on Sunday night, Ali screened "Moonlight" -- which took home Best Picture ... eventually -- for his hometown team, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle
"He's an Oakland guy and a big Athletics fan, and he wanted the guys to see it," reliever and baseball's resident film criticJohn Axford told Slusser. "It's fantastic; it's my favorite movie of the year."
The team expected as many as two dozen players to show up to the screening, and Ali also held one for A's employees in Oakland earlier this month. The film even won the approval of Sean Doolittle, despite having absolutely nothing to do with Star Wars:
