The Pirates' third-base coach forgot his helmet, so Ivan Nova taped it to his head
In the first inning of Thursday's 10-4 win over the Nationals, Pirates third-base coach Joey Cora almost left the dugout without a helmet on.
Luckily, Ivan Nova had him covered.
The Bucs pitcher fastened Cora's helmet to his chin with athletic tape, expertly holding the helmet snugly against Cora's head as he wrapped the tape.
Maybe Cora can be forgiven, though. Thursday marked just his 41st game as the Pirates' third-base coach. He was promoted in December after spending a season as the skipper of Pittsburgh's Double-A Altoona Curve; maybe Cora got a little too used to the cushy comfort of the manager's perch in the dugout.
Safety first, Joey. At least Ivan Nova's got his head on straight.
