Mets fan fails to reel in foul ball, but does snag a lesson about the agony of chance anyway

For every stellar catch by a fan in the stands -- whether from a dad holding his baby or a young man Snapchatting with his other hand -- there are probably a hundred flubs. Just as in the sport itself, failure happens much more frequently than success.
Catching a baseball is tough. First off, the realization that you might actually have a chance ... and that the white orb is, in fact, heading in your general direction ... can be a bit overwhelming, whether you make the play or not. For one Mets fan along the third-base line in Tuesday night's game with the Pirates, that whole experience came full circle.
Despite having a glove and an unencumbered seat along the edge of the railing, he was unable to pull in a foul off the bat of Gregory Polanco, and his reaction to the misplay (though it was a tough catch to make, given how far he had to extend) was pretty great:

Hey, sometimes it just doesn't work out. Fortunately for this man, at least Wilmer Flores wound up giving him the ball that just barely eluded his clutches on the fly.
Coincidentally enough, this incident at Citi Field happened on the same night the Red Sox radio booth came oh-so-close to a miraculous play -- only to have the opportunity fizzle away:
