Even the Space Needle will celebrate Ken Griffey Jr. during his number retirement ceremony
It's been a pretty great year to be Ken Griffey Jr. Well, OK, every year is a pretty great year to be Ken Griffey Jr., but in 2016, he's done a little bit of everything -- from joining the Baseball Hall of Fame to waving the green flag at Daytona to hanging out with President Obama to delivering an induction speech for the ages. But before the Summer of Griffey draws to a close, there's still one item of business to attend to: The Mariners will retire his number prior to Saturday's game against the Angels.
This won't be any ordinary retirement ceremony, though. This is Griffey's retirement ceremony, and, befitting the man who once upended the global sneaker market, Seattle is going big. Like, Space Needle big:
Space Needle will fly Ken Griffey Jr. "24" flag this weekend. Mariners retiring 24 on Saturday.

The 24 has adorned Seattle's highest point before, when Griffey was first elected to the Hall back in January. But since it won't grace center field at Safeco in the future, the more No. 24's around, the better.
